Job Title
Technology Portfolio Management Leader
About your role:
You will build, own, and drive the Portfolio Management function for the Merchant Solutions Technology organization. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), you will establish the operating model, governance, and planning cadence that align strategy, investment decisions, and delivery execution across a complex portfolio. You will partner with senior leaders across technology, finance, product, operations, risk, and sales to create transparent intake and prioritization processes, enforce delivery discipline, and provide executive-level insights that optimize technology investments and enable measurable business outcomes.
What you'll do:
- Stand up and lead the Portfolio Management function for Merchant Solutions Technology, defining the operating model, decision-rights, governance forums, and enterprise-ready ways of working
- Own portfolio governance and planning (annual and quarterly): intake, prioritization, funding alignment, and delivery oversight—ensuring decisions are transparent, repeatable, and aligned to business outcomes
- Translate enterprise and technology strategy into an actionable portfolio roadmap, including dependency management and sequencing across products, platforms, and initiatives
- Drive portfolio-level capacity and trade-off decisions with Technology and Business leaders by surfacing constraints, delivery risks, and critical dependencies early and often
- Lead executive communications and decision support for the COO and leadership forums, providing crisp views of portfolio health, progress, investment performance, and top risks/issues
- Partner with Finance on the portfolio financial lifecycle (planning, budgeting, forecasting, and benefits realization) to ensure investments are supported by clear business cases and measurable outcomes
- Build, lead, and develop a high-performing team within the Portfolio Management function, setting expectations for disciplined execution, transparency, and continuous improvement
- Establish and maintain strong stakeholder partnerships across Product, Operations, Risk/Compliance, Sales, and vendor/partner teams to ensure alignment to enterprise priorities and control expectations
- Responsibilities listed are not intended to be all-inclusive and may be modified as necessary.
Experience you'll need to have:
- 10+ years of experience in technology portfolio management, enterprise program leadership, PMO leadership, or technology governance within large, complex organizations
- Experience leading enterprise-scale portfolios (multiple programs/initiatives) with material budgets, cross-functional dependencies, and executive-level reporting and decision support
- Experience building and scaling portfolio governance and planning (annual/quarterly), including intake, prioritization, sequencing, and investment alignment
- Must have experience operating across mixed delivery methodologies (Agile, hybrid, and Waterfall) and tailoring governance, planning, and reporting to differing team maturity
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex portfolio data into clear, decision-oriented insights
- Exceptional communication skills, including creating and presenting executive-ready materials for audiences across all levels of the organization
- Ability to influence and partner with senior stakeholders across technology, finance, product, operations, and risk/compliance to drive trade-offs and portfolio outcomes
- Experience leading and developing teams (direct and/or matrixed), including coaching and driving accountability
- Experience operating in regulated and/or highly controlled environments with strong governance standards and audit readiness expectations
- Bachelor's degree in information technology, business, finance, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education, related experience and/or military experience
- Familiarity with common portfolio and delivery toolsets (e.g., Clarity PPM, Jira, Microsoft 365) and translating tool outputs into executive-ready reporting and actions
Experience that would be great to have:
- Master's degree in business, finance, information technology, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education, related experience and/or military experience
- Experience in financial services, payments, financial technology, or similarly regulated industries
- Project Management Professional (PMP), Program Management Professional (PgMP), Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL), or equivalent portfolio or delivery certification
- Experience with product portfolio/roadmapping tools used for upstream strategic planning, scoring, and prioritization (e.g., Aha! or equivalent)
