Senior Power Systems Studies Engineer
Role Summary
We are seeking a Senior Power Systems Studies Engineer to lead advanced power system studies for large-scale data center projects, generation facilities, and complex electrical infrastructure. This role is responsible for executing high-quality EMT, steady-state, dynamic, and power quality studies, as well as developing validated simulation models
Key Responsibilities
- Lead EMT, steady-state, dynamic, and power quality studies for data centers, and generation facilities
- Perform advanced design and performance studies covering transient and temporary overvoltages, transient recovery voltage, switching and lightning overvoltages, insulation coordination, harmonics, flicker, energization, load flow, short-circuit, stability, and power quality.
- Develop, tune, validate, and benchmark dynamic models for generators, loads, inverter-based resources, data center equipment, and other electrical assets using field data, manufacturer information, and simulation results.
- Analyze data center power systems with an emphasis on large load dynamics, equipment modeling, backup generation, UPS behavior, switching events, power quality, and overall system performance.
- Evaluate conventional and inverter-based generation systems, including machine dynamics, control system tuning, disturbance ride-through, and grid performance.
- Translate complex simulation results into clear conclusions, practical recommendations, and decision-ready guidance for clients and project stakeholders.
- 10+ years of experience in power system modeling, analysis, and studies.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, preferably with a power systems focus.
- Strong experience with PSCAD.
- Experience with additional tools such as PSS/E, EMTP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, or similar platforms is preferred.
- Working knowledge of applicable IEEE, IEC, CIGRE, utility, and industry standards.
- Strong experience performing EMT, steady-state, dynamic, transient, or power quality studies.
- Experience developing and validating generator, load, equipment, or inverter-based resource models.
- Experience with power generation and on-site generation systems including gas turbines, reciprocating engines, synchronous generators, backup generation, and hybrid generation configurations.
- Experience with generator dynamic performance, including excitation systems, governors, disturbance ride-through, and response to large step-load changes.
