The Technician completes assigned preventive maintenance and reactive maintenance repairs.
The Commercial Door Technician installs, repairs, and maintains a wide range of commercial door systems, ensuring they operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with industry standards. This role combines mechanical skill, problem-solving, customer service, and on-site fieldwork.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Install, service, and repair commercial door systems, including:
- Overhead sectional doors
- Rolling steel doors
- Automatic doors
- Hollow metal doors and frames
- Access control hardware
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and structural issues with door systems.
- Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and safety checks.
- Replace or repair components such as springs, cables, motors, tracks, hinges, and operators.
- Ensure all work meets safety regulations, manufacturer specifications, and building codes.
- Communicate clearly with customers about repair needs, options, and recommendations.
- Maintain accurate service records, work orders, and inventory usage.
- Operate company vehicles, tools, and equipment responsibly.
- Provide emergency or after‑hours service when required.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with commercial door installation or mechanical/electrical repair.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, hand tools, and power tools.
- Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Physical ability to lift heavy materials, climb ladders, and work at heights.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving abilities.
- Professional communication and customer service skills.
Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification from AAADM, IDEA, or similar industry organizations.
- Experience with access control, automatic operators, or fire‑rated door systems.
- Electrical or welding experience.
- OSHA safety training.
Work Environment
- Field‑based role with daily travel to customer sites.
- Indoor and outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
- Use of PPE and adherence to safety protocols required.
