A successful candidate will have strong communication and problem-solving skills to support a rewarding customer mission. He/she will perform the full range of work involved in the repair, overhaul, maintenance, and servicing of plumbing related units and systems. This is full time position providing operational mission support.
Summary:
In addition to meeting the necessary qualifications the selected candidate must be comfortable working in a dynamic environment. This position will be based in Japan, primarily at a customer location aboard MCAS Iwakuni in support of a Base Operations & Support contract with the Department of Defense (DoD)/Navy- Marine Corps.
Performance Location: The individual filling this position will be supporting Amentum on a contract for the US Department of Defense and working at the Marine Corps Air Station, Iwakuni, Japan.
Working Environment: The candidate will work on maintenance sites including exposure to the dangers inherent with traveling to and working on such sites. This is a non-SOFA assignment
Work Schedule: This position works eight hours/day five days a week minimum. On-call rotation with after-hours response to emergency work orders.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with a wide variety of commercial and industrial systems to include those which require that the employee troubleshoots, installs, repairs, and modifies special purpose systems.
- Performs preventative maintenance services, repairs, inspections, installations etc.
- Troubleshoots and repairs equipment such as that above for which specifications and technical manuals do not exist or have large gaps.
- Tests installed, modified, or repaired systems to ensure that specifications and equipment performance requirements are met.
- Will act as the lead Plumbing Technician on their assigned shift; Trains inexperienced personnel by giving on-the-job instructions and assistance.
- The successful candidate will be working as part of a small multi-functional trade team and will be required to assist other tradesmen if/as needed to accomplish contract required work.
- Perform inspections and prepares written reports.
- Perform cutting, fitting, connection, and installation of plumbing piping, equipment, fixtures, and systems in compliance with the International Plumbing Code or Uniform Plumbing Code
- Diagnose, repair, and perform maintenance on existing plumbing systems, equipment, fixtures, and infrastructure.
- Advise immediate Supervisor of job progress and material/labor requirements.
- Use solid decision-making ability and sound judgment to safely and effectively solve problems.
- Proactively identify any unsafe conditions or hazards and communicate them effectively.
- Work directly with other departments to plan and complete tasking.
- Take initiative to analyze a situation and to make frequent technical decisions based on specifications, safety, and governing codes.
- Will be required to prepare instructional material and conduct instruction to subcontractors.
- Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.
Minimum Acceptable Experience and Qualification Levels:
- Four (4) years Plumbing experience in operations and maintenance services or a current State Journeyman Plumber license or Journeyman Plumber card (or National equivalent)
Education:
- A high school diploma or GED and successful completion of an Apprentice program.

- Ability to read and interpret design drawings, specifications as required.
- Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum.
- Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors.
- Minimum four years of documented experience in all phases of the plumbing trade including piping, fixture installation, and service and repair of plumbing systems.
- Knowledge of the principles of plumbing and the current International Plumbing Code or Uniform Plumbing Code.
Preferred:
- Knowledge in the discipline of operations and maintenance projects in an international environment preferred.
- Experience working with SOW, plumbing diagrams and blueprints.
- Computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
- Experience with Maximo or other Computerized Maintenance Management System
Language Requirement:
- Must be fluent in speaking, reading, and writing English
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills sufficient to effectively communicate with employees, management, and the client.
Professional Licenses & Certifications:
- Current State Journeyman Plumber license or Journeyman Plumber card (or National equivalent)
- Certification as Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester will be required prior to offer
- Certification as Backflow Prevention Assembly Repairer will be required prior to offer
Other Requirements:
- Candidate must possess a valid passport of home country with a minimum of 12 months remaining to expiration date. If not currently a resident of Japan
- Will be expected to obtain a company-sponsored Japanese Work Visa if not currently a resident of Japan
- Position requires the applicant to drive in the performance of work duties. Applicant must be able to obtain and maintain a Japanese Driver License and be able to operate a Company provided motor vehicle on MCAS Iwakuni.
- Transportation is not provided to locally hired personnel for the purpose of commute to and from the workplace. Non-locally hired are expected to obtain and maintain the legal ability to operate a Company provided vehicle both on and off the installation for the purpose of commute and/or on-site transportation. Those unable to obtain and maintain the legal means to operate a motor vehicle in Japan or aboard the installation will be responsible for their own transportation for all purposes.
