About the opportunity
Energy, Engineering and Technical Services is one of our newest Business Units and has been formed with the vision to support positive change and help shape the future of Nuclear Power. Our embedded teams are delivering support to Hinkley Point C (New build power station in the South West), Sizewell C (located in the South East), helping develop technologies in SMR (Small modular Reactor) capability and working towards building Poland's first Energy Power station.
Working in both client facing and internal roles we are delivering major programme and project management capabilities throughout the project lifecycle. We are driving to deliver safe, high quality and to time solutions by thinking innovatively and working collaboratively.
The Balance of Plant Commissioning Engineer’s role will evolve during the lifecycle of the project and combine technical knowledge with
project delivery skills. At the early stages you will contribute to detailed planning and preparation, including reviewing contractor-produced
commissioning documentation. Following this, you will execute commissioning tests and conduct surveillance on contractor-led activities as
part of a team and analyse the results to justify the readiness of the HPC units to safely enter commercial operation.
As a Commissioning Engineer you will be responsible for the delivery of test specifications and safety documentation during preparation for
commissioning. You will perform site testing safely and effectively, assist with the analysis of commissioning results, resolve problems and
take responsibility for ensuring that deliverables supporting HPC commissioning are provided on time, in accordance with the Project’s
requirements. This will include giving support to contract partners and taking part in contractual review and acceptance activities. Key responsibilities will be:
- Accountable to a Commissioning Manager in the NNB HPC Project team.
- Develop commissioning documentation and review contractor-produced documentation relating to commissioning testing.
- Contribute to detailed planning and take ownership of a programme of tests.
- Take part in or lead the execution of site commissioning activities which may include supervision of contractor personnel to achieve safe
- Commissioning of HPC systems.
- Provide information to assist the Commissioning Manager in meeting project-level objectives and milestones.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- Degree qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Strong technical knowledge of Mechanical & Process Systems with strong technical engineering skills and problem solving skills
- Must have good ICT literacy (familiarity with using Excel, using Sharepoint, using Review & Comment functions in Adobe & Word, and adaptability to other software packages used on the project such as Switch/ Fieldview/ Navisworks 3D modelling)
- Good communication skills and the ability to convey complex information to others and able to work as part of a team and work closely with contractors.
- Delivery focus – either a track record of delivery or a delivery mind-set.
- Demonstrable history of working within safety and quality cultures.
- Not essential, but greatly advantageous, working knowledge/experience of UK power industry Electrical & Mechanical Safety Rules. At a minimum must have a working knowledge/experience of permit-to-work systems and lock-out/tag-out systems in heavy industry
