Oracle is building the cloud foundation for Oracle's SaaS businesses. This large-scale, multi-tenant platform, native to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), helps Oracle SaaS teams run cloud-native services on OCI and Kubernetes.
We are seeking a Senior Manager Software Engineering to manage and develop engineering teams building control-plane services and foundational Kubernetes infrastructure behind the platform. These teams own services that provision and operate customer environments, deploy workloads, manage secrets and environment metadata, and provide the networking, ingress, service mesh, certificate management, private connectivity, and policy enforcement needed to run SaaS workloads securely at scale.
We are looking for a technical engineering manager who has previously built and operated production services, then grown into leading teams that own services end to end. You should have managed teams responsible for one or more services or a set of related microservices, with accountability for design, delivery, operations, roadmap planning, hiring, performance management, and service health.
You should understand how to operate highly available systems: designing for resilience, reducing operational complexity, using metrics and automation to make better decisions, and building a proactive service-ownership culture. You will help the team balance speed, quality, reliability, and security while delivering platform capabilities that developers trust and production customers depend on.
This role requires a leader who can stay close to deep technical systems work while developing managers and senior engineers. You will guide architecture, manage execution, grow the team, and deliver critical platform services.
Minimum Qualifications
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years managing software engineering teams.
- Prior hands-on experience designing, building, and operating production services before moving into or while serving in engineering management.
- Experience managing teams that own production services, including roadmap planning, design, delivery, operations, customer support, incident response, and long-term service health.
- Experience delivering and operating large-scale, highly available distributed systems or cloud platform services.
- Strong technical judgment in service architecture, APIs, reliability, scalability, security, observability, and operational readiness.
- Working familiarity with Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure, networking, service-to-service communication, and infrastructure automation.
- Demonstrated ability to hire, coach, evaluate, and grow engineers and engineering leaders.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical direction, operational risk, customer impact, and prioritization decisions to senior leaders and partner teams.
Internal Responsibilities
- Lead and grow engineering teams building high-scale platform services for Oracle SaaS on OCI and Kubernetes.
- Establish clear service ownership for each team, including APIs, architecture, production readiness, operations, on-call health, customer support, and long-term technical direction.
- Own delivery and operations for control-plane services that provision environments, deploy workloads, manage metadata and secrets, and automate lifecycle operations.
- Own foundational Kubernetes services for networking, ingress, service mesh, private connectivity, certificate management, and admission-control policy enforcement.
- Set technical direction with architects and senior engineers, balancing reliability, security, scalability, operability, and delivery speed.
- Drive planning, backlog management, architecture reviews, execution, and release readiness for multiple high-priority platform initiatives.
- Build a strong service-ownership culture around observability, runbooks, incident response, on-call quality, root-cause analysis, customer impact, and durable production fixes.
- Model responsible use of approved AI-assisted tools in day-to-day leadership work, and encourage engineers to use them to improve design, coding, testing, debugging, documentation, and operations.
- Partner with OCI service teams, Oracle SaaS teams, security, site reliability engineering, product management, and release automation to deliver cross-organizational programs.
- Hire, coach, and develop managers and engineers; create clear expectations, feedback loops, career growth, and succession plans.
- Communicate strategy, status, tradeoffs, and risks clearly to senior engineering leaders, partner teams, and platform customers.
