Data Center Commissioning Engineer- Mechanical (Senior and Mid Level)
Location: Toronto, ON and Montreal, QC.
Responsible for carrying out the following duties specific to your position:
- Develop or manage the development of Commissioning Plans and Commissioning Specifications.
- Develop, implement and execute mechanical QA/QC inspection programs for large, complex critical facility construction and commissioning projects including developing inspection and commissioning checklists, test scripts and procedures, and other required documentation required by the Owner’s and/or General Contractor’s QA/QC program.
- Experience with commissioning liquid cooling and high-density rack infrastructure in hyperscale/colocation datacenters is highly preferred.
- Have fluency with the commissioning processes and deliverables covered in ASHRAE commissioning requirements and guidelines.
- Expertise in mechanical equipment/systems installation (means & methods), system startup and pre-functional inspections, acceptance testing and associated commissioning activities.
- Work directly with General Contractors, sub-contractors, inspectors, AHJs, and others involved with the QA/QC program execution for large critical facility construction and commissioning.
- Monitor, review, and execute all facets of Commissioning related projects by providing exceptional technical and field activities. In addition, the candidate will be expected to demonstrate strong management and technical functions throughout the design, pre-construction, construction, and post-construction phases of projects.
- Liaise with team members, outside consultants and contractors to lead cross functional teams on data center or mission critical commissioning projects.
- Protect JLL’s contractual position and ensure our work meets contracted requirements.
- Carry out field-based commissioning activities, including:
- Site visits
- Develop Start-up and test forms; witness and approve contractor execution
- Develop Functional Test scripts; manage, direct and witness execution
- Develop Integrated Systems Test scripts, direct and witness execution
- Perform Commissioning Design Drawing, Specification and Submittal Reviews.
- Schedule, lead and document project commissioning meetings.
- Write detailed standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Methods-of-Procedures (MOPs).
- Develop and compile project documentation into site/project specific Systems Manuals.
- Strong proficiency in use of QA/QC and Cx software applications such as BIM360, CxAlloy, Facility Grid, and other related QA/QC and Cx applications.
- Ability to develop/review/evaluate vendor training programs for installed equipment and systems.
- Lead all of the project documentation requirements within scope of services for a given project. Accountable for the preparation, review, and issuance of same, and though these tasks may be delegated, there may/will be the need to personally prepare them to meet the required timelines.
- Lead team members in the performance of, and where necessary, self-perform, front to back, all the field activity components. This includes scheduling and coordinating JLL and project team members accordingly, ensuring our requirements are fulfilled by the contractor and relevant sub-trades, and maximizing efficiency/productivity of our staff.

Qualifications
- Documented and verifiable experience acting as an Mechanical and Controls 3rd party Commissioning Engineer on greenfield data center projects with capacities of 25+MW.
- Senior Level: A minimum of 7 years of relevant mechanical engineering and/or field-testing experience with minimum of 5 years in providing commissioning and/or construction QA/QC field services for data center construction projects.
- Mid-Level: A minimum of 5 years of relevant mechanical engineering and/or field-testing experience with minimum of 3 years in providing commissioning and/or construction QA/QC field services for data center construction projects.
- Accredited engineering or technology degree is preferred or equivalent industry experience is acceptable.
- Possess a Commissioning Professional Certification from a recognized industry authority
- Prof Eng/PE or PMP designation is considered an asset but not required.
- Master Mechanical License is not required but an asset
- Knowledge and experience in testing Fuel Oil systems, Chillers (air and water cooled), CRACs, CRAHs, AHUs, BMS/BAS.
- Strong data management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong proficiency in MS Project, Smartsheet, Word, and Excel
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate and organize multiple project schedule inputs/performance data into a master schedule platform and deliver project/program status reports as required.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and report against contractor (and other third party) schedule updates
- Experience working in a consultancy or owner organization is an asset but not required
Estimated compensation for this position:
140,000.00 – 170,000.00 CAD per year
This range is an estimate and actual compensation may differ. Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
