Position Overview
We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented CNC Machine Operator to support our structural steel fabrication operations. This role is responsible for operating advanced CNC equipment used to cut, drill, cope, and process structural steel members (beams, channels, HSS) according to shop drawings and production schedules.
Duties
- Operate CNC equipment to process structural steel members, including cutting, drilling, coping, and layout marking
- Read and interpret structural steel shop drawings, including piece marks, hole locations, and geometry
- Load and position steel members using overhead cranes or material handling equipment
- Select and run appropriate CNC programs based on job requirements
- Monitor machine performance to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and quality output
- Perform in-process quality checks to verify dimensions, hole placement, and cuts meet specifications
- Make minor adjustments to machine settings and programs as needed
- Identify and report discrepancies in drawings, material defects, or machine issues
- Maintain production logs and meet daily production targets
- Perform routine cleaning and basic maintenance of equipment
- Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations
Qualifications
- Proven experience operating CNC machinery such as CNC milling machines, CNC lathes, or CNC presses within a manufacturing or fabrication facility preferred.
- Ability to read and understand structural steel shop drawings required
- Experience working with beams, channels, and HSS preferred
- Familiarity with measuring tools (tape measure, square, calipers)
- Basic computer skills for program selection and machine interface
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Overhead crane and/or forklift experience preferred
- Ability to troubleshoot minor machine or program issues
- Previous warehouse or factory experience preferred; familiarity with materials handling, fabrication processes, welding, assembly line operations, and tooling is advantageous.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally
- Comfortable working with large steel members and heavy equipment
