Leidos is looking for a Paralegal to join our Washington, DC team.
Primary Responsibilities:
The candidate would be responsible for processing, analyzing, and monitoring evidence requests, using in OIL’s electronic database.
The candidate must review and analyze new evidence requests and draft appropriate responses in the form of referral letters, rejection letters, affidavits, and other correspondence requested by OIL.
The candidate would also be responsible for drafting court pleadings, petitions, and preparing the documents for filing in district court.
Duties also include contacting witnesses regarding new evidence requests, following up with OIL attorneys, and responding to inquiries from the public relating to mandamus petitions/requests received by phone and email.
The candidate would also assist attorneys with legal research relating to novel or complex evidence or service matters. Tasks may also include Westlaw or Lexis research, case summaries, and short research projects related to international judicial assistance matters.
The candidate will also be responsible for printing, filing, scanning, and copying documents or sending out packages by FedEx. When other team members are absent or require assistance, the candidate will assist with other tasks as necessary.
Basic Qualifications:
Requires paralegal certificate, or JD, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study
At least one year of litigation paralegal experience required.
Must have basic legal knowledge, including knowledge of standard legal citation to cite check legal motions and memorandum and must have sufficient experience with legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw to perform basic legal research.
Thorough knowledge and hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems.
Role also requires basic familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources.
Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure will be very important.
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with the Microsoft suite, including Excel and Word, as well as Adobe Acrobat is essential.
Bluebook and Cite checking experience.
Experience with Relativity.
Strong analytic, organizational, and writing skills are preferred.
Trial experience helpful.
This position is covered under the Service Contract Act and is subject to minimum requirements. Leidos ensures that all provisions are satisfied. The pay for this position will be $25.58/hr.
