On the Human Health and Performance Contract we are at the forefront of safeguarding astronaut health, ensuring human performance, and advancing technologies for human space exploration. We are seeking an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Counselor at the NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston, TX.
What You’ll Do:
In this role, you will provide vital support for EAP team delivering services to the Civil Servant and Contractor employees at NASA JSC. You will assist accomplishing the goals and deliverables of the EAP. You will provide comprehensive therapeutic services including clinical assessments, brief counseling for individuals and families, and crisis intervention. Beyond direct patient care, you will coordinate specialized external treatment, facilitate mental health educational workshops, and contribute to EAP outreach and program development. The position requires rigorous adherence to professional documentation standards, the maintenance of LPC-I licensure through clinical supervision, and a steadfast commitment to institutional safety and quality assurance protocols in support of the NASA community.
You will work on a highly collaborative team, interfacing routinely with our EAP Director and individuals and groups who are part of the NASA JSC workforce. As a part of the EAP team, you will contribute directly to the success and safety of NASA’s spaceflight goals and missions.
Your primary tasks:
Core Counseling & Clinical Duties
- Provide brief therapeutic interventions, including assessments and individual, marital, and family counseling.
- Manage caseloads and coordinate care with external providers for clients requiring specialized or long-term treatment.
- Facilitate clinical staffing and consultations to ensure high-quality patient care and case management.
- Complete training in crisis intervention and critical incident stress debriefing (CISD).
- Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation and reports in compliance with program standards.
Outreach & Program Development
- Design and deliver mental health presentations, seminars, and workshops for NASA Johnson Space Center personnel.
- Support EAP outreach and quality assurance initiatives, assisting in resource and program development.
- Collaborate on JSC and Agency-wide efforts to enhance EAP services and community engagement.
Professional Compliance & Licensure
- Maintain LPC licensure and fulfill all continuing education requirements.
- Adhere to all Safety, Health, Environmental, and Quality Assurance plans, ensuring a safe and compliant work environment.
- Complete all required training and maintain professional attendance standards.
What You Bring:
You bring experience and expertise to provide a wide array of counseling and education and outreach services to maintain or enhance the behavioral health of individuals, work group and families. Your experience and clinical acumen will help set the conditions for our NASA JSC workforce to be safe, productive and successful. Also, you will comply with KBR’s Safety, Health and Environmental Plan, Quality Plan, and all safety policies and procedures, and complete all assigned training.
Your Qualifications:
REQUIRED:
- Master's degree in counseling or clinical psychology
- Skill in crisis intervention, solution-focused brief therapy
- LPC licensure
DESIRED:
- Familiarity with purpose of critical incident stress debriefing
- Pre-graduate training in group dynamics
- Ability to work within a technical, engineering organization

- Demonstrated technical writing ability.
- Familiarity with Office365, willingness to learn electronic medical record software for client charting.
- Demonstrated excellence in communication and presentation skills, and able to present information to a wide variety of audiences.
- Ability to be flexible and adapt quickly to changing requirements.
What to Expect:
This position is expected to be 100% on site and in-person. The EAP team follows the 9/80 schedule of the NASA JSC Occupational Health Clinic. Occasional travel may be required.
