Job Summary
A Semiconductor / Chemical Safety Engineer / Speacialist is required by the Microcircuit Emulation Center at SRI International (formerly Sarnoff Corporation) to support the manufacturing of microcircuits (integrated circuits). Through SRI's Generalized Emulation of Microcircuits (GEM) and Advanced Microcircuit Emulation (AME) programs, the Microcircuit Emulation Center supplies form, fit, function, and interface replacements for obsolete microcircuits. This capability supports production, redesign, and sustainment requirements for the life of a weapon system. SRI’s Microcircuit Emulation Center is a government-supported, U.S.-based Trusted foundry.
The successful candidate will serve a hands-on role to facilitate safety best practices and compliance at our Microcircuit Emulation Center and responsibilities will include:
- Facilitates, conducts, and implements safety risk assessments, training, and internal audits.
- Ensures compliance with local and federal standards by assessing current and future planned site protocols and procedures, e.g., gas and chemical emissions.
- Maintains and improves group safety systems by working with external equipment suppliers and internal staff to upgrade and if applicable replace existing systems, including gas detection and alarm systems, process, vacuum, and exhaust systems configurations.
- Applies understanding of chemical reactions to determine by-product types and reactions that may take place post processing in equipment.
- Applies this knowledge to recommend safe post equipment handling of materials e.g., gases, chemicals.
- Supports facility improvements and new equipment purchases to ensure safety compliance and identifies and eliminates risk in processes and practices.
- Advocates “Safety First” culture – improves current training methods and implements improved practices e.g., scored assessments for individual certification and qualification
- Collects, correlates, interprets, and presents data and information
Education/Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years’ experience performing role of safety engineer / specialist in Semiconductor or Chemical industry
- Demonstrated knowledge of chemical reactions and understanding material behavior under various conditions (e.g., temperature effects)
- Knowledge or experience performing safety risk assessment studies
- Demonstrated analytical and systematic teamwork approach to troubleshooting
- Due to Government requirements candidates must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident

Pay: $79,533.00 - $105,381.00 per year
