KBR Infrastructure Solutions Australia, in partnership with Frazer-Nash Consultancy, is expanding our Nuclear Capability team. We are seeking an experience Principal Nuclear Design & Safety Assurance Engineer to join Australia's largest industry team of Nuclear Suitably Qualified and Experienced Personnel (NSQEP).
The Opportunity
Under AUKUS Pillar 1, Australia is on a defined path to acquiring and operating a fleet of conventionally armed, Nuclear-Powered Submarines (NPS). Delivering that capability safely and on schedule demands world-class nuclear safety expertise and that is precisely what our team provides.
You will work directly alongside government and defence stakeholders to deliver nuclear safety informed design processes for naval nuclear facilities and infrastructure across Australia. The work is technically demanding, nationally critical, and professionally rewarding in equal measure.
The purpose of this role is to support KBR’s delivery of existing nuclear projects and provide additional capacity to organically develop nuclear expertise and capability within the business. Longer term this organically grown nuclear expertise will enhance KBR’s capabilities allowing KBR to offer new services and capture new nuclear related markets that will emerge in time.
A significant part of the role includes the ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams, with different partners, delivering the projects and assist with transfer of knowledge, skills and experience related to nuclear design, engineering and safety assurance.
What You Will Do
What We Are Looking For
Essential
- Extensive experience in the nuclear industry on the following topics:
- Safety informed design process
- Deterministic Safety Analysis
- Technical design substantiation
- Application of nuclear design standards and codes
- Construction and commissioning of facilities and infrastructure
- Regulation and Licensing
- Nuclear Management Systems, Process and Procedures
- Training development and delivery
- Management of a Nuclear Supply Chain
- Active or eligibility for Defence security clearance.
- Relevant Engineering degree or similar qualifications
Desirable:
- Experience in high-hazard industries operating under formal regulatory regimes
- Direct experience with nuclear-powered submarine programmes
- Involvement in the delivery of nuclear facilities or infrastructure
- Background in Defence project delivery
