Under general supervision, performs all conventional aspects of the functionalareasubject matter. Devisesnew approachesto problemsencountered. Plans, schedules, and conducts
work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation,selection, and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. Performs work which involves conventional engineering practice but may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements.Providestechnical guidance to designers and less experienced engineers.
The Opto-Mechanical Designer willbe responsible forthe design and modeling ofmechanical components to interface withoptical elements such as lenses, mirrors, diffractiveelementsand filters. Thecandidatewill design and model the mechanical means to mount and position these elements in an optical system. The designer will also need to be able to develop detailed drawings of these optical elementsand overall optical systemas well as fabrication and assembly drawings for the mechanical hardware and optical assemblies.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills:
Education:Bachelor'sDegree in a related field or equivalent7+ years of related experience
Specific knowledge related to themechanicaldesignmountsand modeling ofopto-mechanical systems. Proficient in CAD software (SolidWorks, NX), providing innovative and practical mechanical solutions in support of optical system development.
Ability to work all phases of opto-mechanical subsystems from the conceptual design layout, package prototyping, fixture/tooling design, development of mechanical attachment methods/tools foroptimaloptical alignmentincluding system level assembly and interface drawings (ICD)

The offered rate will be based on the position, contract affordability, the selected candidate’s working location, knowledge, skills, abilities, experience, and in consideration of internal parity.
