Position Overview
The Demolition Foreman is responsible for leading and working alongside a crew in performing demolition, removal, and site preparation on construction and abatement projects. This role requires strong leadership, effective communication, and strict adherence to safety and compliance standards. The Forman will supervise laborers, ensure high quality and efficient work, and coordinate with supervisors, contractors, and management to guarantee jobs are completed on time and at or under budget. This position is considered a “working foreman,” meaning the individual will actively perform physical job duties while overseeing and mentoring their crew.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise, train, and coach employees, ensuring adherence to company procedures, quality standards, and safety requirements.
Assign and monitor daily tasks, providing feedback and corrective action when necessary. Review concerns with supervisor.
Lead daily pre-task safety meetings and communicate expectations clearly to the crew.
Serve as a role model for punctuality, professionalism, and strong work ethic.
Communicate concerns or performance issues to management and recommend corrective measures.
- Job Performance & Documentation
Ensure efficient job site setup each day by identifying equipment requirements and prepping vehicles with all necessary tools and supplies.
Perform demolition tasks including dismantling structures, material removal, and site cleanup, while maintaining compliance with OSHA and company safety standards.
Read and follow written and verbal instructions, project specifications, and demolition plans; clarify project scope with Project Manager when needed.
Complete and submit daily reports, logs, crew hours, waste disposal records, and compliance documentation.
Professionally communicate with contractors, supervisors, clients, regulators, and coworkers to maintain positive working relationships.
Identify and address structural concerns before demolition; confirm utilities (electrical, plumbing, mechanical) are safe prior to removal.
Recommend improvements to work methods, procedures, or equipment use to improve safety and efficiency.
Accurately record hours worked using the company’s timekeeping system (e.g., T-Sheets).
Report equipment and vehicle repair needs promptly.
Document jobsite conditions with photos using the CompanyCam app before starting tasks and after project completion.
Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.
Operate hand tools and demolition equipment such as sledgehammers, jackhammers, saws, drills, grinders, and crowbars.
Operate mid-level equipment including skid steers, mini excavators, scissor lifts, and floor scrapers (training provided as needed).
Safely drive company vehicles including flatbed trucks, vans, and trailers up to 30’.
Perform basic vehicle and equipment inspections and maintenance checks.
Enforce all company, OSHA, and state safety policies and procedures at all times.
Ensure crew members use and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) including respirators, hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, safety vests, and steel-toe boots.
Stop work immediately if unsafe conditions arise and notify supervisors.
Complete and submit incident, near miss, or hazard reports as required.
Ensure jobsite compliance with safety documentation, reporting, and inspections.

Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds frequently and occasionally heavier items (75+ with assistance or equipment). Tasks include handling tools, materials, and debris.
Frequent standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, squatting, and reaching; ability to work safely from ladders, scaffolds, lifts, and uneven surfaces.
Ability to wear and properly use full PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, steel-toe boots, protective suits, respirators). Must pass respirator fit test.
Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, and equipment requiring manual dexterity and coordination.
Ability to work in confined spaces, tunnels, attics, or elevated/restricted areas, often in dusty, noisy, or fume-filled environments and in varied weather conditions.
Sufficient stamina to perform strenuous physical labor, repetitive motions, and extended shifts, with occasional overtime based on project demands.
Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily at job sites across Maine, often outdoors in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow, humidity) with frequent exposure to dust, fumes, noise, and hazardous materials.
Environments may include confined spaces, crawlspaces, tunnels, or elevated areas (ladders, scaffolds, lifts), requiring work in restricted or awkward positions while following safety protocols.
Frequent travel to job sites with early morning start times and occasional overnight stays may be required. Transportation is typically provided from shop locations.
Work occurs around heavy equipment, moving vehicles, and demolition/abatement machinery, requiring constant situational awareness and adherence to safety rules.
Use of protective equipment is required, including respirators, protective suits, gloves, eye/ear protection, safety vests, and steel-toe boots. Extended periods in PPE and respirators may be necessary.
Regular communication with supervisors, project managers, and crew members is required to ensure coordination, safety, and project progress.
Schedules may include long or irregular hours, early mornings, extended shifts, or occasional weekends to meet project deadlines.
