KBR is seeking a highly experienced Principal Engineering Technician to support the development, integration, testing, troubleshooting, and sustainment of advanced electronic, cyber-physical, RF, communications, and research systems in support Department of War and affiliated government agencies.
This position serves as a senior hands-on technical contributor responsible for supporting multidisciplinary engineering teams across hardware prototyping, laboratory integration, cyber test environments, RF systems, communications platforms, and emerging technology development efforts. The selected candidate will provide technical hardware expertise throughout the system lifecycle, from concept development and prototype fabrication through integration, test, demonstration, and field deployment.
The ideal candidate possesses extensive experience working with advanced electronics, embedded systems, networking hardware, RF equipment, cyber test infrastructures, and laboratory instrumentation. This individual will be a trusted technical resource responsible for solving complex technical challenges, mentoring junior personnel, maintaining laboratory capabilities, and enabling successful execution of engineering and research programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in assembly, integration, modification, troubleshooting, and repair of prototype electronic, RF, cyber, and communications systems
- Support development and integration of hardware platforms used in cyber, electronic warfare, communications, navigation, sensing, and data processing applications
- Design, fabricate, and document cable assemblies, test fixtures, wiring harnesses, rack-mounted systems, and laboratory support equipment
- Build, assemble, and maintain engineering development environments, test beds, and hardware-in-the-loop systems
- Perform root-cause analysis and corrective actions for hardware, networking, and system integration issues
- Develop and maintain wiring diagrams, assembly instructions, schematics, and bills of material (BOMs)
- Support laboratory, chamber, field, and customer demonstration events hardware needs
- Collaborate with electrical, software, systems, cyber, RF, and mechanical engineering teams to improve designs and system performance
- Mentor junior technicians, co-ops, interns, and engineers in laboratory best practices and troubleshooting techniques
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree in Electronics Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Computer Engineering Technology, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline; equivalent military or industry experience considered
- Active DoD Secret clearance
- 15+ years of experience supporting engineering development, prototype fabrication, laboratory operations, systems integration, or technical test activities
- Demonstrated experience troubleshooting complex electrical, electronic, networking, or RF systems
- Experience supporting hardware integration and verification in laboratory or operational environments
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
- Experience operating and maintaining electronic test equipment and laboratory instrumentation
- Strong technical problem-solving and diagnostic skills
- Ability to work independently on complex technical assignments with minimal oversight
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD security clearance
Desired Qualifications
- Experience supporting PNT, cyber, communications, autonomy, or sensor integration systems
- Experience supporting the DoW, or other government research and development efforts
- Experience with additive manufacturing, CNC equipment, rapid prototyping, or fabrication tools
- Experience supporting field demonstrations and prototype deployments
- IPC J-STD-001, IPC-A-610, Security+, Network+, CCNA, or comparable technical certifications
- Experience mentoring technical personnel and leading laboratory operations
