This postdoctoral assignment is responsible for the design, manufacture and characterization of novel lipid nanoparticle formulations for the targeted delivery of nucleic acid therapeutics. The work is multi-functional and includes lipid design, formulation research, experimental studies, analytical and physical characterization methods development, and sample analysis. The role will include developing and utilizing techniques for high-throughput LNP formulation screening and lipid structure optimization. The successful candidate is expected to leverage the current literature, the competitive landscape and recent progress in the field. This is a hands-on, laboratory-based role in a highly collaborative early development environment. The expectation is that the candidate will produce publication and patentable quality results.
Behaviours

Job Description
- Lead and participate in the development of early-stage nanoparticle formulation development activities, including targeted therapies.
- Design and implement experiments for the formulation and characterization of lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) and targeted LNPs for in vivo drug delivery.
- Participate in the function-based design of novel lipid molecules for improved targeting, delivery, and efficacy of RNA therapeutics.
- Develop, optimize and employ high-throughput formulation screening tools.
- Collaborate with Discovery scientists for the cell-based and in vivo assessment of LNP performance.
- Must have experience with lab-scale nanoparticle preparation techniques, including microfluidics technology.
- Must have experience in development of methods to analyse and characterize drug product formulations, components, and functionality.
- Must have experience and technical proficiency in the physical characterization of nanoparticles, including particle sizing.
- Must have hands-on experience with plate-based assays.
- Highly desirable to have experience with high-throughput screening technology and robotic liquid handlers.
- Experience with bio-conjugation chemistry a plus.
- Experience with use and programming of automated liquid handlers is a plus.
- Experience and technical proficiency with HPLC and other methods for analysis and quantification of nucleic acids, proteins, lipids is preferred.
- Experience with cell-based assays is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to document work and a proven record of scientific technical writing.
Qualifications
- Candidates must have completed a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Material Science, or closely related disciplines. It is expected that candidates have academic experience in LNP research and development, and a publication record in this field.
