Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is seeking a Principal Network Development Engineer to join its Physical Networking organization. In this role, you will design and evolve massive-scale network systems that support OCI’s global cloud infrastructure and customer-facing services.
You will combine deep networking expertise with strong engineering judgment to translate requirements into detailed, maintainable designs. You will lead technical delivery for moderately complex network initiatives, identify and mitigate design and operational risks, and partner with software, infrastructure, security, product, and operations teams to deliver resilient solutions.
This is primarily a network engineering and design role. The successful candidate will also use Python, automation frameworks, and AI-assisted engineering tools to improve network validation, deployment safety, troubleshooting, and operational efficiency.
Internal Responsibilities
- Strong knowledge of large-scale IP networking, including routing, switching, network security, and common control-plane protocols such as BGP and OSPF.
- Experience with tunneling and segmentation protocols such as EVPN/VXLAN.
- Lead the design and implementation of scalable, highly available network systems and capabilities for OCI.
- Experience designing, implementing, and operating production network systems with high availability and operational rigor.
- Experience with network automation or software development, preferably Python.
- Ability to independently lead technical design work, communicate decisions clearly, and guide other engineers.
- Translate high-level business, product, and service requirements into detailed network architectures, designs, implementation plans, and documentation.
- Drive technical delivery for moderately complex projects and coordinate the work of a small group of engineers where needed.
- Define and improve engineering standards for network design, validation, lifecycle management, monitoring, and operational readiness.
- Lead technical reviews that address resiliency, scalability, failure modes, security, capacity, observability, and rollback strategies.
- Develop targeted automation and tooling to reduce operational toil, improve deployment safety, and strengthen network validation.
- Serve as a Tier 3 or specialized escalation point for complex network events; lead technical deep dives, root-cause analysis, and systemic corrective actions.
- Collaborate across teams to resolve design dependencies and improve shared engineering and operational practices.
- Mentor engineers through technical coaching, design reviews, and hands-on guidance.
- Work with vendors and internal partners to evaluate technologies, resolve technical issues, and support network lifecycle decisions.
