EHS Technical Support Representative – Environmental Operations
Position Summary
The EHS Technical Support Representative provides hands-on support for environmental compliance programs and environmental operations across the facility. This position is responsible for the operation and monitoring of industrial wastewater treatment systems, management of hazardous waste accumulation areas, hazardous waste packaging and shipment preparation, environmental inspections, and support of regulatory compliance activities.
The successful candidate will work closely with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), Facilities, Production Operations, Engineering, and external waste disposal vendors to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations while supporting safe and efficient facility operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Wastewater Operations
- Operate, monitor, and maintain industrial wastewater treatment and wastewater neutralization systems.
- Perform routine wastewater sampling, testing, and analysis.
- Monitor wastewater system operating parameters and make adjustments as required to maintain compliance.
- Maintain wastewater treatment logs, operating records, and regulatory documentation.
- Support wastewater permit compliance activities.
- Coordinate wastewater system inspections and preventive maintenance activities.
- Identify and report equipment malfunctions, process upsets, and environmental concerns.
Hazardous Waste Management
- Collect, transport, and manage hazardous waste generated throughout the facility.
- Perform hazardous waste container inspections and ensure proper labeling, storage, and segregation.
- Maintain hazardous waste accumulation areas in compliance with applicable regulations and company requirements.
- Package hazardous waste for shipment in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate waste pickups with approved disposal vendors.
- Prepare hazardous waste manifests and supporting shipment documentation.
- Track waste generation, storage, and disposal records.
- Support waste minimization and pollution prevention initiatives.
Environmental Compliance Support
- Conduct routine environmental inspections and compliance assessments.
- Assist with compliance activities associated with hazardous waste, wastewater, stormwater, air emissions, and chemical management programs.
- Maintain environmental permits, records, reports, and compliance documentation.
- Assist with regulatory audits and inspections.
- Support environmental incident investigations and corrective action implementation.
- Assist in maintaining environmental databases and tracking systems.
Chemical Management Support
- Assist with chemical inventory management and storage compliance.
- Verify proper chemical labeling and storage practices.
- Support Safety Data Sheet (SDS) management activities.
- Assist with environmental reviews of new chemicals and processes.
Facility and Operational Support
- Perform field inspections throughout manufacturing and support areas.
- Provide environmental compliance guidance to employees and supervisors.
- Support emergency response activities involving hazardous materials and environmental incidents.
- Assist with special environmental projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Participate in environmental training activities as required.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance requirements.
- Ability to identify environmental compliance concerns and recommend corrective actions.
- Ability to interpret technical procedures and environmental permits.
- Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to regulatory compliance.
- Ability to work effectively with employees at all organizational levels.
- Some overtime may be required for this role
Required Education
High School/GED
Required Years of Experience
Minimum of 2 years of related work experience
Basic Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years of industrial, environmental, wastewater treatment, hazardous waste, manufacturing, facilities, or related experience.
- Ability to read and understand environmental procedures and regulations.
- Experience using Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent walking throughout manufacturing, laboratory, and outdoor work areas.
- Ability to lift and move containers, equipment, and materials up to 35 pounds.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including respirators when necessary.
- Ability to work around chemicals, hazardous waste, industrial equipment, and outdoor environmental conditions.
- Ability to climb stairs, bend, stoop, and perform physical inspections.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Technology, Chemistry, Industrial Technology, or related field.
- Experience operating industrial wastewater treatment systems.
- Experience managing hazardous waste in a manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of RCRA hazardous waste regulations.
- Experience with wastewater permitting and compliance programs.
- DOT hazardous materials shipping experience.
- Experience working in aerospace, manufacturing, industrial, or government-regulated environments.
