The CANA Senior Data Engineer Intern is an experienced data pipeline builder and data wrangler who enjoys optimizing data systems and building them from the ground up. They will support our software developers, operations research analysts, and data scientists on data initiatives and will ensure optimal data delivery architecture is consistent throughout ongoing projects. The CANA Senior Data Engineer Intern is intended to lead into a fully virtual, senior technical position that requires a broad range of application experience, knowledge, and abilities to work independently, with a group, and to provide leadership through projects and tasks.

The CANA Senior Data Engineer Intern will:
- Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional/non-functional business requirements.
- Support the identification, design, and implementation of internal process improvements.
- Build infrastructure manually and as a service (IaaS) required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL and AWS/Azure ‘big data’ technologies.
- Build analytics tools that utilize the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into customer acquisition, operational efficiency and other key business performance metrics.
- Work with stakeholders to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs.
- Ensure data storage and sharing compliance with security and privacy appropriate policies and regulations.
- Create data tools for analytics and data scientist team members that assist them in building and optimizing our product into an innovative industry leader.
The CANA Senior Data Engineer Intern will possess a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems or another quantitative field, and 5-10 years or more of combined experience in applying analytics and data science methods to operational problems. The ideal Intern will have experience working for and/or within the Department of Defense, to include knowledge of security protocols, management of both commercial and legacy systems in a large-scale enterprise, working across varied environments and on complex data integration requirements.
It is desired the CANA Senior Data Engineer Intern have experience with: big data tools; relational SQL and NoSQL; data pipeline and workflow management tools; AWS cloud services (EC2, EMR, RDS, Redshift); stream-processing systems; object-oriented/object function scripting languages (Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, etc.).
