Job Description BAE Systems is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team of professionals as a Field Service Engineer (FSE). The qualified candidate will support sustainment of large transmitters and receivers by performing advanced troubleshooting, patching oversight, preventative maintenance, and engineering reach‑back coordination. This position ensures technical readiness across multiple systems and provides escalation support to the Field Support Technicians depot maintenance and contingency operations. The Field Service Engineer must display strong interpersonal communication skills, work as a member of a dedicated team, build technical relationships with the customer community, contractors, BAE Systems Program Management as well as representing the company in a professional manner.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the comprehensive engineering lead for System Maintenance Events, executing system checkout, calibrations, corrective maintenance, and field testing
- Perform advanced diagnostics on LRUs, software and other RF subsystems; coordinate depot‑level repair evaluations through contractor facilities.
- Support implementation of engineering enhancements and patch management to fielded systems, including in a lab environment
- Lead FRACAS activities in the field, collect failure data, and provide detailed engineering feedback to sustainment teams.
- Train, supervise, and provide technical mentoring to Field Support Technicians during preventative maintenance and contingency operations.
- Interface with customer personnel during reviews, site visits, classified communication sessions, and technical discussions.
- Support OCONUS contingency operations when required; fulfill all ITAR, medical, and mandatory theater training.
- Document system performance, maintenance actions, and configuration changes for CDRLs and data management updates.
- May be asked to support development tasks such as technical manual editing, testing repaired components/LRUs, and approving revisions to drawings
Because of the need for consistent, in-person collaboration and the nature of this role, this position is performed 100% full-time on-site at a BAE Systems customer facility.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills - Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field.
- 4 to 5+ years experience in field engineering, sustainment, or system‑level troubleshooting of complex RF, networked, or embedded systems.
- Experience with Linux‑based systems, networking hardware, and test equipment such as VNAs.
- Fluent in wiring diagrams and HVAC diagrams and troubleshoot appropriately
- Willingness and ability to travel CONUS/OCONUS for preventative maintenance and contingency operations.
- Possess a strong ability to articulate complex technical issues in an easy-to-understand manner to the customer, including remotely
- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds and work on ladders.
- An active Secret clearance is required; with the ability to obtain Special Access Program clearance.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills - Experience with antennas, RF distribution subsystems, or similar DoD systems, as well as knowledge about expeditionary HVAC systems
- Familiarity with STIGs, IA scanning tools, patch-management processes, or sustainment engineering practices.
- FRACAS/Jira experience.
- Experience with organizational and depot level repair pools
- Active Top Secret clearance desired
Pay InformationFull-Time Salary Range: $118095 - $200762
