Job Summary and Qualifications
The primary role of the Coordinator is focusing on prevention and reduction of clinic write offs and denials. Under direction of the Director of Oncology, the Financial and Reimbursement Coordinator is also responsible for insurance and eligibility verifications and assessment of financial requirements of recommended treatment. The coordinator works collaboratively with the Oncology staff and physicians, Finance Department, Patient Accounts, and Administration. This position performs financial counseling for patients and family members; and performs other related duties as assigned or requested in order to maintain a high level of service. The Financial and Reimbursement Coordinator will also perform the functions of the Administrative Assistant II role as needed.
What will you do in this role:
Focuses on clinic write offs, denials and L line submissions
Provides education to clinic staff on billing and coding requirement updates
Tracks new patient referral information for both clinics for monthly Service Line meeting
Works in conjunction with Social Workers for patient assistance programs as needed
Aids outside companies and offices with Benefits Investigation for incoming infusion patients
Assigns current account numbers as needed for accurate registration and charge entry
Manually discharges accounts as needed to assist Medical Records with account reconciliation
Pre-registers all patient accounts
Coordinates/verifies insurance authorization for infusion therapy services with outside providers
Communicates to the treatment team any issues with coverage that may impact the sequencing and timeliness of care
Responsible for insurance authorization/verification of new patients and medications
Demonstrates knowledge of the revenue cycle
Member of the Denials Management Action Team - researches denied accounts for patients and initiates further billing inquiry as needed
What qualifications you will need:
- High degree of computer literacy with experience in medical terminology
- Associates degree in health sciences and /or medical records certificate program/coding preferred
- Experience with insurance authorization/certification and oncology coding (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS)
- Minimum two years medical business office experience with insurance procedures and working knowledge of healthcare insurance particularly Medicare and Medicaid required
- Working knowledge of NCCN guidelines
