Job Summary and Qualifications
- The Outpatient Coordinator schedules patients for new & recurrent appointments. Verifies insurance benefits. Coordinates authorization for procedures related to care. Clerical/secretarial support to the department and director of outpatient wound care & hyperbaric department.
- Verify insurance benefits & obtain authorization for procedures for patients
- Coordinate/manage a multi-physician patient centered daily schedule, check in patients as they arrive for scheduled appointment, ensure the patient’s medical records have current diagnostic results, referrals, etc.
- Provide secretarial support to the department director including correspondence, reports and memoranda as directed. Maintain an updated & current appointment calendar Appropriately screen new patient referrals, ensuring they are scheduled with the appropriate provider
- Exercise independent judgement/discretion within scope of responsibility (ability to work with general vs. close supervision)
- Support the department in maintaining organized & timely responses in daily activities throughout the area of responsibility. Track project deadlines. Assist with special projects as they arise. Keep confidentiality of position
- Assist with Joint Commission/CMS/QRS/State survey preparations
- Complete required continuous training & education, including department specific requirements
- Promotes & adheres to all elements of the hospital & corporate ethics and compliance program
- Promotes & adheres to all elements of the Patient Safety Program
- Performs duties and responsibilities of lesser included jobs
- Perform other duties as assigned
What qualifications you will need:
Education: Graduate from High School
License/Cert: None required
Experience: 1 year experience working in an outpatient healthcare setting. Thorough knowledge in verifying insurance benefits, obtaining authorization for procedures and scheduling patients. Must have strong time management and organizational skills. Demonstrate ability to interact professionally in stressful situations is required
