.POSITION OVERVIEW:
Hands-on Assistant Plant Controller position supports the location management team and corporate requirements related to financial close, cost accounting, reporting and analysis, budgeting, forecasting, safeguarding assets and supervising support staff. Serves as a financial advisor to the company providing financial analysis and planning, budget control, accounting methods and profit and loss reporting. Reviews, analyzes and interprets all financial and budget reports. Supervises team members including hiring, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, etc. to ensure accurate and timely performance of all basic accounting functions. Manages internal control review by corporate headquarters.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Safeguard assets and assure accurate and timely recording of all transactions by implementing disciplines of internal audits, controls and checks across all departments
- Manage the accuracy and productivity of day-to-day activities of accounts payable, cash disbursements, invoicing/billing, customer credits and collections, perpetual inventory integrity, fixed asset records, general & entity accounting, and cost accounting
- Responsible for monthly close including preparing journal entries and account reconciliations, reviewing financial statements, ensuring accuracy and GAAP compliance and preparing management and operational reports
- Interact with peer controllers and corporate staff to share ideas and develop best practices across the organization
- Develop, improve and issue timely monthly financial records for Group Controller and Corporate
- Assure financial plans are consistent with organizational goals
- Provide financial analysis tools to evaluate company ventures or special projects, programs, capital expenditures, products costing, etc. when necessary
- Interface with outside audit firms(s), banks, casualty/liability insurance agent(s), credit card companies, and collection agencies
QUALIFICATIONS SUMMARY:
BA/BS degree in Accounting or Finance and CPA. Greater than 5 years' experience in a financial/accounting position with progressive responsibility. Written and verbal communicate skills with the ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries. Mathematical skills required with emphasis on the ability to prepare budgets, financial reports and analysis; apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, etc. Extensive computer skills with the ability to prepare spreadsheets, charts, word documents, power point presentations, etc. Ability to apply logical thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Proficient in all financial/accounting areas.
