Lead Technician - Building Electrical Maintenance

As a Lead Technician for Building Electrical Maintenance at JLL, you'll take charge of ensuring the safety, reliability, and optimal performance of electrical systems across our managed facilities. This role places you at the forefront of critical infrastructure operations, where your technical expertise directly impacts the daily experience of building occupants and the long-term value we deliver to our clients. You'll lead a team of skilled technicians while performing hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting complex electrical issues, and implementing preventive maintenance programs that keep facilities running seamlessly. What your day-to-day will look like:
- Lead and coordinate the activities of electrical maintenance technicians, providing technical guidance, work assignments, and hands-on mentorship to ensure high-quality service delivery
- Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and testing of electrical systems including switchgear, transformers, distribution panels, emergency generators, UPS systems, and lighting controls
- Diagnose and troubleshoot complex electrical failures and malfunctions using testing equipment, blueprints, and technical documentation to minimize downtime and restore operations quickly
- Ensure all electrical work complies with local, state, and national electrical codes (NEC), OSHA safety standards, and JLL's quality assurance protocols
- Coordinate with vendors and contractors for specialized repairs, system upgrades, and capital improvement projects, ensuring work is completed safely, on time, and within budget
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment inventories, work orders, and safety inspections using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
- Respond to emergency electrical issues outside regular business hours as part of on-call rotation, demonstrating reliability and commitment to continuous facility operations
- Conduct safety training and toolbox talks with team members to promote a culture of safety awareness and compliance with all electrical safety procedures
- Identify opportunities for energy efficiency improvements and system optimizations that reduce operational costs while enhancing building performance
Required qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent with completion of a recognized electrical apprenticeship program or vocational/technical training in electrical systems
- Minimum 5-7 years of progressive experience in commercial building electrical maintenance with at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory capacity
- Valid Journeyman Electrician license or equivalent state/local electrical certification required for the jurisdiction
- Comprehensive knowledge of electrical systems including low, medium, and high voltage distribution, motor controls, lighting systems, fire alarm systems, and emergency power systems
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical blueprints, schematics, one-line diagrams, and technical manuals
- Demonstrated ability to use electrical testing equipment including multimeters, megohmmeters, thermal imaging cameras, and power quality analyzers
- Strong leadership and communication skills with proven ability to train, mentor, and effectively coordinate team activities
- Valid driver's license with clean driving record and ability to travel between multiple facility locations as needed
Preferred qualifications:
- Associate's degree in Electrical Technology, Facilities Management, or related field
- Master Electrician license or additional certifications such as Certified Maintenance and Reliability Technician (CMRT) or Building Operator Certification (BOC)
- Experience with building automation systems (BAS), energy management systems, and integration of electrical systems with smart building technologies
- OSHA 30-hour construction safety certification and specialized electrical safety training (NFPA 70E, Arc Flash awareness)
- Experience working in mission-critical environments such as data centers, hospitals, or high-rise commercial office buildings
- Familiarity with CMMS platforms (Maximo, FM:Systems, or similar) and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Knowledge of sustainable building practices, LEED operations, and energy efficiency initiatives that align with client environmental goals
