The Senior Engineer, SCADA and Controls Engineering supports the standardization, design, implementation, and integration of data center controls systems across a global portfolio. This role contributes to the engineering and deployment of Building Management Systems (BMS), Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), Building Automation Systems (BAS), and SCADA platforms to ensure safe, reliable, and scalable operations for high-availability and AI-infrastructure data center environments.
This engineer partners with Data Center Design/Build teams, Operations, and vendors to support system designs, review controls implementations, and help ensure operational outcomes are achieved through design validation, commissioning, and lifecycle support.
Internal Responsibilities
Controls Engineering & System Design
- Support the design and implementation of BMS, BAS, EPMS, and SCADA systems for new data center builds and retrofit projects.
- Contribute to the development and application of controls system standards, reference designs, and engineering specifications.
- Assist with defining controls architectures including system topology, communication protocols, tagging standards, alarming strategies, and historian requirements.
- Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineering teams to ensure proper integration between controls platforms and critical infrastructure systems.
- Support system interoperability between controls platforms, field devices, and enterprise monitoring or analytics platforms.
Design Reviews & Technical Support
Commissioning & Operational Readiness
- Support functional testing and commissioning activities for controls systems, including integrated system testing with mechanical and electrical infrastructure.
- Validate that vendor deliverables include complete point lists, tagging standards, metadata, and open protocol access.
- Assist in validating alarm strategies, data integrity, and system performance prior to operational handover.
- Contribute to root cause analysis (RCA) and post-incident reviews involving controls systems.
Cybersecurity & OT Network Integration
- Work with network and cybersecurity teams to support implementation of secure controls architectures, including segmentation and secure connectivity practices.
- Ensure controls designs follow established standards for access control, monitoring, logging, and secure remote connectivity.
- Support documentation and configuration management practices for controls systems.
Vendor & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with controls vendors, system integrators, and contractors to ensure project deliverables align with engineering standards.
- Support technical reviews of vendor designs, submittals, and system integration approaches.
- Work closely with operations and reliability teams to incorporate operational feedback into future designs and system improvements.
Required Qualifications
- 5–7 years of experience in data center engineering, mission-critical infrastructure, or industrial control systems.
