Job Summary and Qualifications
As a Collections Specialist, you will contribute to the company’s mission, vision, and values by completing follow-up and collections for patient services. Under the supervision of the Business Office Manager/Business Office Supervisor, you will obtain payment from third party payers and self-pay accounts to enhance cash flow and gather reimbursement based on established contracts.
What you will do in this role:
- Manage assigned accounts receivable to drive timely payment, reduce outstanding balances, and minimize bad debt.
- Perform consistent, timely follow-up on insurance and self-pay accounts to resolve outstanding balances and secure reimbursement.
- Contact insurance carriers, patients, and other responsible parties to resolve unpaid and disputed accounts.
- Identify and resolve billing, coding, EOB, and claim issues that delay payment.
- Follow up on insurance denials and coordinate with coders and physicians to obtain reimbursement.
- Negotiate payment arrangements on self-pay accounts in accordance with established policies and guidelines.
- Monitor aging accounts and initiate appropriate collection actions, including referral of qualifying accounts to outside collection agencies.
- Reconcile accounts placed with outside collection agencies and monitor collection activity.
- Maintain accurate documentation of collection activity and update patient accounts and AdvantX as required.
- Serve as a liaison for third-party payer accounts, including Medicare and Medicaid, and address issues affecting reimbursement.
- Identify and escalate contractual or payer issues that may impact collections.
- Prepare and provide weekly collection and A/R reports to leadership.
- Maintain A/R days and bad debt within established organizational goals.
- Follow established collection best practices and timelines for initial and ongoing account follow-up.
- Perform other duties as assigned based on operational needs.
Qualifications you will need:
- Minimum (1) year of experience in a medical office setting highly preferred. (i.e. ambulatory surgery center, hospital, doctors office) preferred
- Knowledge of managed care payers and medical terminology is preferred
