Overview
The HEI Externship Program is a 10 – 15 week fast track development opportunity for culinary students to expand their knowledge in the hospitality industry. The Extern will spend their program immersing themselves into the culinary discipline by shadowing critical leaders, attending operational meetings and working alongside the associates and leadership team that ensure the day-to-day success of the department. The objective of this program is to provide you with a foundation that will prepare you for a long-term career within the hospitality and culinary industry.
Responsibilities
- Shadow identified leaders within the department at the hotel.
- Shadow each shift and each position within the Outlet you are assigned to at the hotel.
- Consistently attend department meetings.
- Prep and plate up for restaurant and banquets including fabrication of meats, fish, and poultry
- Prep and cooking of starches and vegetables
- Cook and hold foods saftey and correctly and includes the plate up.
- Ensure compliance with Standard Operating Procedures and Policies.
- Comply with attendance rules and be available to work on a regular basis.
- Perform any other job related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Current student or recent graduate of a culinary arts program preferred.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, customers and patrons.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to adapt communication style to suit different audiences, such as effectively communicating with supervisors, coworkers, public, etc.
