The Joint, Office of the Secretary of Defense, Interagency Division provides expert support services to a range of customers spanning across the Department of Defense, Federal Civilian, and international markets. JOID provides a diverse portfolio of analytical and programmatic capabilities to help our customers make informed decisions on their most challenging issues.
JOID assists the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) in developing leading edge technologies to counter WMD in support of CCMDs and transitioning these technologies to military services and COCOMs. SPA provides expertise across the full range of chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and high-yield explosives (CBRNE) WMD, Counter Improvised Threat and Countering Threat Network technologies to support understanding, detection, identification, characterization, denial, control, disabling, defeating, disposing, safeguarding the force, managing consequences, and test and evaluation in support of military and civilian operations.
We have an immediate need for a Physical Scientist - Testing and Analysis to provide onsite support in Albuquerque, NM.
Responsibilities:
Provide R&D analysis support to the DTRA RD-TS (Test and Assessment) Department with emphasis on testing and evaluating counter WMD (CWMD) Threats. Responsible for the Test and Evaluation (T&E) quality; design and develop test programs, processes, and systems to measure the functionality and integrity of complex products and services. Write detailed test procedures and protocols to fully assess product reliability and evaluate the ability of products to meet performance standards and specifications. Gather test data and evaluate the results of tests to determine if product designs and architecture meets customer specifications and performance expectations. Provide engineering support for the design, development, fabrication, and fielding of test articles and apparatus on behalf of DTRA RD-TS.
Qualifications:
Required:

Bachelor's degree in a STEM field

5+ years of experience in an engineering or scientific function, including research

Able to work independently and complete tasking with minimum guidance and supervision

Possess excellent interpersonal communication skills

Active TS clearance, with ability to obtain SCI
Desired:

Master’s degree or PhD in a STEM field

Understanding of mass transport calculations for solid or liquid materials in dynamic fluid environments, exigent emission and plume phenomenology, and chemical interaction and reactivity phenomena

Experience with SolidWorks or comparable Computer Aided Design (CAD) Software for physical modeling and design work

Familiarity with hardware and software applications for mechanical and electrical control systems

Experience with electro-mechanical automation and algorithm design

Chem/Bio T&E experience
