Description
Our Directed Energy team in Albuquerque is looking for an Opto-Mechanical Technician to troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and improve optical, laser, and mechanical systems. This is an exciting opportunity to work with modern equipment in cutting-edge laboratories at the Air Force Research Laboratories (AFRL) on Kirtland AFB, where you will be part of a team that investigates novel Ultra-Short Pulse Laser phenomenology of both low and high-power systems. The successful candidate will work closely with both Leidos and government engineers and scientists in a small group setting.
Primary Responsibilities
- Perform laboratory equipment maintenance and repair of optical and mechanical components and systems, including optical measuring devices, chillers, vacuum pumps, and general laboratory tools.
- Lead installation of new hardware and fixtures to expand laboratory capabilities and capacity.
- Procure items necessary for laboratory operation, maintenance, and upgrades.
Basic Qualifications
- Minimum of a HS diploma.
- Basic understanding of optical and laser systems and ancillary components and systems
- Two or more years maintaining and repairing optical and/or laser and mechanical systems in a laboratory environment.
- Work in a clean room environment
- Engage in technical research and development in a fast-paced environment.
- Work well with Leidos and government staff.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD secret clearance. (U.S. Citizenship is required)
Preferred Qualifications
- Associates degree in optics, engineering, or other relate technical field.
- Advanced skills with troubleshooting and resolving optical, laser, and mechanical issues.
- Experience with Ultra-Short Pulsed Lasers.
- Experience with Optical Parametric Amplifier systems.
- Hold an active government security clearance.
- Have strong innovation, analytical and diagnostic skills.

Our Directed Energy team in Albuquerque consists of approximately 100 scientists, engineers, technicians, drafters, fabricators and support staff with backgrounds in advanced physics, electrical and mechanical engineering, electromagnetics, lasers, and high-power microwaves. For over three decades our team has worked with government laboratories to push the limits of the state-of-the-art in several high-tech fields and continue to do so on several programs.

Pay Range:
Pay Range $44,850.00 - $81,075.00
