Oracle is dedicated to advancing its sustainability commitments, minimizing environmental impacts, and accelerating the transition toward a circular economy. Oracle's Global Sustainability Office is seeking a leader in sustainable hardware and circularity that will drive the company’s circularity strategy, with a particular emphasis on sustainable hardware, circular design, and end-of-life hardware management across Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). This role will work to improve resource efficiency, extend hardware lifecycles, and reduce embodied emissions of IT infrastructure.
This role will oversee OCI's hardware take-back program and collaborate closely with data center operations, hardware engineering, supply chain, procurement, and reverse logistics teams to maximize hardware reuse, refurbishment, and material recovery. The program manager will also help advance circularity principles throughout the hardware lifecycle, from material selection and product design to deployment, reuse, and end-of-life management.
The ideal candidate combines expertise in circular economy principles and hardware sustainability with strong program management, business acumen, and a proven ability to translate sustainability strategy into measurable operational outcomes. Success requires navigating a complex, fast-paced, and highly matrixed organization, influencing stakeholders across business functions, and driving scalable solutions that deliver both environmental and business value.
Internal Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Define and operationalize Oracle's corporate waste and circularity strategy, driving progress company-wide sustainability goals, with initiatives spanning data centers, corporate offices, and other business operations.
- Own company-wide waste and circularity metrics, including diversion rates, hardware reuse, material recovery, and downstream traceability. Improve data collection, accuracy, and auditability to inform business decisions and support regulatory and voluntary sustainability reporting (e.g., ESRS/CSRD, GRI).
- Lead OCI’s hardware take-back program and oversee reverse logistics, collaborating with data center operations, hardware engineering, supply chain, and logistics partners to maximize the reuse, refurbishment, redeployment, and responsible recycling of retired IT hardware.
- Develop strategies to extend the useful life of server hardware and components, identifying opportunities for repair, refurbishment, component harvesting, and closed-loop material recovery.
- Partner with hardware engineering, product design, and procurement teams to advance sustainable hardware design, including design for circularity, disassembly, repairability, and extended product life.
- Identify opportunities and develop business cases to improve hardware sustainability, including material efficiency, recycled content, responsible material selection, and reducing embodied carbon associated with hardware manufacturing.
- Drive cross-functional program execution, translating sustainability strategies into actionable roadmaps, operational processes, measurable milestones, and scalable improvements across Oracle's global operations.
- Engage external partners, suppliers, and industry organizations to advance circularity programs, evaluate emerging technologies, and identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement.
- Promote circular procurement and responsible resource management through stakeholder engagement, guidance, and training across Oracle.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in sustainability, environmental science, engineering, supply chain management, or a related discipline.
- 10+ years of relevant experience in program management, corporate sustainability, hardware lifecycle management, supply chain sustainability, or related fields.
- Demonstrated experience implementing waste management, resource conservation, or circular economy programs within the IT or technology industry.
- Experience with hardware take-back, IT asset disposition, electronics recycling, reverse logistics, or hardware lifecycle management.
- Strong understanding of circular economy principles and the lifecycle of IT hardware, including reuse, refurbishment, material recovery, and environmental impacts associated with manufacturing and end-of-life management.
- Proven ability to lead complex, cross-functional programs, influence stakeholders without direct authority, and drive operational improvements in fast-paced, matrixed environments.
- Strong analytical and business judgment, including experience developing business cases, establishing performance metrics, and leveraging data to prioritize initiatives and inform decisions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information and present clear, actionable recommendations to senior stakeholders.
- Understanding of relevant waste, materials management, and sustainability reporting standards and regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of sustainable hardware design principles, including design for circularity, design for disassembly, modularity, repairability, and extended product life.
- Experience conducting or interpreting lifecycle assessments (LCAs), product carbon footprints, or embodied carbon analyses, including sustainable material selection and recycled material integration for IT hardware and electronics.
- Experience with global waste and circularity reporting, including current and emerging regulatory frameworks (e.g., CSRD/ESRS, GRI).
- Familiarity with electronics recycling and product stewardship standards and regulations, including R2, e-Stewards, WEEE, or equivalent frameworks.
- Experience with supplier engagement, circular procurement, and influencing supply chain sustainability and emissions.
- Familiarity with broader circularity strategies involving non-IT materials, including waste diversion, recycling, and resource recovery.
- Experience with enterprise sustainability reporting and data management platforms (e.g., Workiva, SAP Sustainability, Oracle EPM).
