The Environmental & Functional Test Technician installs and certifies thermocouples on flight and non flight hardware, then operates and monitors thermal‑vacuum (TVAC) and environmental test chambers to simulate the extreme hot‑ and cold‑cycle conditions of space. The technician must understand the chamber systems, thermal control hardware, and associated test procedures, and work closely with engineers, program managers, and other maintenance disciplines to ensure successful test execution.
Key Responsibilities
Thermocouple Installation:
• Install, route, and terminate thermocouples on satellite circuit cards, modules, and box‑level hardware per engineering drawings and test procedures.
• Verify sensor placement and continuity using multimeters and calibration equipment.
Chamber Operations:
• Set‑up, program, and control thermal‑vacuum and environmental chambers for hot‑ and cold‑cycle tests.
• Monitor chamber temperature, pressure, and vacuum levels; adjust set points and log data throughout test runs.
Test Execution:
• Conduct test operations following written test procedures, recording results in the test data system using computers.
• Perform basic arithmetic, unit & torque conversions, and data reduction as required.
Collaboration & Communication:
• Work with multi‑functional teams (engineers, program managers, logistics, quality) to coordinate test schedules.
• Communicate any technical issues, deviations, or safety concerns promptly to Test Engineers and management.
Documentation & Reporting:
• Complete test reports, discrepancy logs, and equipment calibration records.
• Evaluate test anomalies and recommend corrective actions or further investigations.
Safety & Housekeeping:
• Follow all safety protocols for high‑voltage, cryogenic, and vacuum environments.
• Maintain a tidy, organized work area and ensure all tools/equipment are stored properly.
