As a Principal Core Infrastructure Engineer in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure’s Data Core organization, you will help build a greenfield DPU-accelerated platform for high-performance networking and storage data paths. You will shape its early architecture, develop foundational software, and take components from prototype to production. Working across hardware, firmware interfaces, Linux, and cloud services, you will improve throughput, latency, reliability, and scale.
This is a hands-on role for an engineer with deep experience in networking or storage data paths. You will use measurements to find bottlenecks, evaluate tradeoffs, and turn sound designs into dependable software. You will lead complex technical projects, establish engineering practices for the new platform, and provide direction and mentorship to other engineers. We also value familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and good judgment about where they improve engineering work.
Internal Responsibilities
As a Principal Core Infrastructure Engineer, you will:
- Design, implement, troubleshoot, and operate networking and storage data path components across a large fleet of DPUs.
- Integrate those components with OCI control and data planes.
- Measure and improve throughput, latency, and resource use across the DPU SDK, Linux kernel and drivers, firmware interfaces, and network stack.
- Own technical delivery from design and implementation through production debugging and operation.
- Help other engineers solve difficult systems problems through technical direction and mentorship.
Required qualifications
- At least 8 years of software engineering experience, including substantial C or C++ development on Linux.
- Deep hands-on experience building or optimizing high performance networking data paths, including packet processing and hardware offload.
- Experience developing for a DPU or SmartNIC platform, such as AMD Pensando, NVIDIA BlueField, Intel SmartNIC, or comparable hardware.
- Working knowledge of storage virtualization, PCIe SR-IOV, and the NVMe and NVMe-oF protocol family.
- Ability to diagnose throughput and latency issues across software and hardware boundaries, and to improve performance on CPU and memory constrained systems.
- Experience using Go, Python, or another scripting language for development, testing, or operational tooling.
- Ability to lead complex work while contributing directly to implementation and debugging.
- A BS or MS degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with P4 programming and pipelines.
- Experience with SPDK, NVMe drivers, RDMA, or NVMe-oF implementations.
- Experience with data encryption in transit or at rest, TCG Opal, or cryptographic hardware offload.
- Experience building and operating data path software at cloud scale.
