We are seeking an experienced Director of Fund Accounting to lead the full-service delivery of fund accounting and associated operational services for a portfolio of clients, with particular relevance to private debt and private credit. The successful candidate will combine strong technical fund accounting expertise with proven people leadership, client relationship management and end-to-end service ownership. This is a senior delivery role with accountability for the overall client experience, service quality, financial reporting, controls, cross-functional coordination, team development and the continued growth of our regulated and unregulated alternatives offering across private equity, private credit, real assets and other closed-ended structures.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, coach and develop a team of fund accounting professionals, setting clear objectives and promoting a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Take end-to-end ownership of full-service client delivery, ensuring fund accounting and related operational services are coordinated effectively across internal teams and external service providers.
- Build trusted relationships with clients, understand their strategic and operational priorities, and translate those requirements into clear service plans, governance arrangements and measurable deliverables.
- Oversee the delivery of fund accounting services for private markets clients, including capital activity, loan activity, investment transactions, income and expense accruals, allocations, valuations and investor reporting.
- Review and approve periodic net asset value calculations, financial statements, partner capital statements, capital call and distribution notices, management reports and other client deliverables.
- Ensure complex fund structures, waterfalls, carried interest, partnership allocations, management and performance fees, equalisation, foreign currency activity and partner allocations are accounted for accurately in accordance with governing documents and applicable accounting standards.
- Oversee the accurate processing of commitments, drawdowns, repayments, interest, amendments, restructurings and distributions associated with loans and other private credit investments.
- Act as the senior escalation point for clients and coordinate timely resolution of service issues across fund accounting, investor services, financial reporting, middle office, technology, compliance and other relevant functions.
- Lead regular client governance and service-review meetings, providing transparent reporting on delivery, risks, incidents, actions, capacity and improvement initiatives.
- Maintain effective operational controls, review procedures, escalation protocols and risk-management practices; ensure issues are identified, documented, communicated and resolved promptly.
- Manage service delivery against agreed deadlines and service levels, balancing priorities across multiple clients, funds and reporting cycles.
- Lead client onboarding, fund launches, restructures, system implementations and operational change initiatives, ensuring a controlled transition into business-as-usual delivery.
- Drive process improvement and automation, using data and technology to strengthen controls, improve scalability and enhance the client experience.
- Contribute to business development, client due diligence, fee proposals and the design of full-service operating models for new products and mandates.
- Monitor team capacity, recruitment, performance and succession planning while supporting an inclusive, high-performing working environment.
- Stay informed on relevant accounting, regulatory and industry developments affecting private markets funds and translate changes into practical operating requirements.
Candidate Profile
- Significant fund accounting experience within private equity, private debt, private credit, real estate, infrastructure or a related private markets environment.
- Demonstrated experience leading managers and accounting teams in a fund administrator, asset manager or comparable financial services organisation.
- Strong understanding of closed-ended and open-ended fund structures, regulated and unregulated alternatives, partnership accounting, commitments, drawdowns, distributions, waterfalls and performance allocations.
- Practical experience accounting for loans and preparing or reviewing partnership allocations, partner capital statements, capital call notices and distribution notices.
- Experience reviewing financial statements and supporting external audits under IFRS, US GAAP or other relevant accounting frameworks.
- Professional accounting qualification or equivalent relevant qualification and experience.
- Strong control mindset and attention to detail, with the ability to identify operational risk, challenge constructively and implement sustainable solutions.
- Confident and articulate communicator, with professional fluency in English and strong interpersonal, presentation and stakeholder-influencing skills.
- Collaborative team player who builds effective working relationships and contributes positively across teams.
- Driven, organised and proactive, with the ability to manage competing priorities, make sound decisions and maintain quality in a deadline-driven environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, with an ability to communicate complex matters clearly.
- Experience using fund accounting and private markets technology to support accurate, controlled and scalable client delivery.
Preferred Experience
- Exposure to regulated alternative investment funds, special purpose vehicles and multi-jurisdictional structures.
- Hands-on expertise using Advent Geneva is strongly preferred, together with experience of FIS allocation applications and familiarity with CDO Suite, Wall Street Office or comparable loan administration platforms.
- Experience managing large or complex client relationships and participating in governance or service-review forums.
- Track record of delivering migrations, operating-model changes, automation or technology transformation.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; experience with other Microsoft products and Power Apps is desirable.
