Description
Focus/Objective:
This position is responsible for providing engineering and project leadership for manufacturing efforts related to coatings (paint and stain) and coating processes. Projects may involve process improvements in safety, quality, cost, delivery and/or performance enhancements of coatings.
Job Responsibilities:
· Support paint production line including projects associated with both materials and applications (paint and substrate) processes.
· Analyze current paint products/processes/equipment and identify opportunities for improvement
· Lead and develop process improvement projects related to coatings (paint) technologies and make recommendations as to viability of solutions to meet business needs
- Testing and validation of new materials in product application including material performance and durability testing
- Implementation of new materials and/or processes in a manufacturing environment
- Lead cost reduction and yield improvement projects with production line and supplier teams
- Activity in technology areas including adhesives, sealants, and coatings
- Staying abreast of developing coatings industry science/technology developments and explore their use on Andersen products
- Presentation of analyses and proposals up to senior management level
- Work with outside coatings or equipment suppliers to answer questions related to coating or process technology
- Schedule, assign, direct, review, and perform coatings project work and coordinate activities with other engineering teams inside Andersen
· Drive improvement activity through a solid understanding and application of statistical tools and interpretation of results for effective solutions (e.g., Design of Experiments, process mapping, process capability analysis, Pugh matrix, FMEA, MSA, control plans, etc.)
· Perform problem solving and root cause analysis
· Develop business case ROI’s (return on investment) for process improvements
· Plan, direct, and manage large-scale projects requiring capital investments
· Develop equipment specifications, and work with external vendors to modify and build equipment to specs.
· Interfaces with advanced design, product engineering, quality, and other business partners on the design for manufacturability, process capability, and production builds
· Design, analyze, and report on experimental studies and / or new coatings technologies
· Provide technical support and leadership, as related to operations processes, for coatings questions, technical training, and/or technical specification development
· Serve as a coatings technical contact for manufacturing partners
· Provide technical leadership to develop, evolve, and improve existing tooling and processing capabilities
· Keep informed on supplier offerings and developing technologies to determine opportunities worth pursuing
Minimum Qualifications
· BS or MS Chem Engr, Mech Engr, Materials Science Engr, or similar Engineering degree
· 3 years of experience in an operations environment
· 3 years of experience in a technical organization
· Strong knowledge of process development principles
· Working knowledge of chemical processes, materials technology, and/or materials testing
· Strong project management skills and experience working with a collaborative and cross functional team
· Strong mechanical aptitude
· Strong writing and communication skills
· Strong analytical skills and familiarity with data analysis techniques in Microsoft Office or other software
- Knowledge of manufacturing specifications and documentation methods
- Working knowledge of coatings, and some experience with adhesives, sealants, laminations, or films
- Knowledge of engineering change processes and working within a stage-gate project program
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years engineering or technical experience working on coatings processes, development, and/or testing
- Experience in the fenestration or related industry
- Experience painting aluminum
- Strong materials analysis experience
- Strong understanding of DMAIC tools, when to utilize the tools, interpretation of results, and application for effective solutions
- Process mapping, process capability, C&E Matrix, fishbone diagram, FMEA, MSA, DOE, Control Plans

In 2024, Andersen has set a profit-sharing target of $4,000 per eligible employee, prorated as appropriate. Profit sharing will be paid out in quarterly installments to provide eligible employees with payments throughout the year, with payment amounts tied to quarterly operating profit performance.
