JOB DESCRIPTION
The Litigation Department, part of the JPMorgan Chase Legal Department, is a dynamic group of legal professionals that provides legal advice concerning existing and threatened litigation against JPMorgan Chase & Co. and its subsidiaries.
As a Paralegal I in our Litigation Department you will independently handle and resolve threatened claims, small claims and limited jurisdiction claims as part of Chase’s Consumer and Community Banking team. Some litigation is handled in-house entirely or you may work with outside counsel on litigation matters that reach across lines of business. A successful candidate is a self-starter who requires little supervision and has the ability to handle competing time demands as well as excellent written and oral communication and negotiation skills.

Job Responsibilities
- Work on all aspects of litigation, including assistance with subpoenas, locating and analyzing documents and information related to existing or threatened claims
- Assistance with responding to discovery, including analyzing discovery requests and researching customer relationships, customer files, documents, correspondence and other media to identify discoverable information
- Assistance with internal reporting regarding pending litigation matters
- Processing settlements
- Independently handling and resolving small claims
- Other litigation related tasks
Required qualifications, capabilities and skills
- Strong PC skills (knowledge of MS Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint)
- Knowledge of general office procedures
- Excellent organizational skills
- Tact and good judgment in handling confidential information
- Ability to interact effectively and professionally at all levels, including with senior management
- Ability to work independently, effectively prioritize and manage deadlines and tasks
- Excellent written and verbal communication and negotiation skills, including telephone etiquette
Preferred qualifications, capabilities and skills
- Working knowledge of LexisNexis and/or Westlaw
- Paralegal certificate; will consider candidates with limited legal experience who demonstrate a strong track record for learning quickly, interest in litigation, and motivation to work hard
Candidates must be in compliance with all relevant licensing requirements including the requirements of the jurisdiction where the role will be located prior to the commencement of employment.
All candidates for roles in the Legal department must successfully complete a conflicts of interest clearance review prior to commencement of employment.
