Your Impact
The primary purpose of this role is to support operational health (performance, availability, interoperability, reliability) of Lowe's Technology Systems. This includes providing first and second-level support for enterprise systems. This role delivers infrastructure solutions in support of components of larger project-based solutions. The individual in this role assists more senior level engineers with infrastructure planning, engineering, and architecture, and works with Business Units to ensure solutions meet or exceed business requirements. At times, this role may deliver work on a smaller component scale independently, with a high level of autonomy. The individual in this role must be comfortable suggesting, promoting, and using published standards to minimize environment complexity and ensure regulatory and license compliance. The individual in this role works the hours and schedule required to support the enterprise and may be on call and/or work alternate schedules to meet the needs of the department.
What you will do
- Implements somewhat complex solutions requirements and functional specifications that support integrated and sustainable designs for designated infrastructure systems based on input from more senior level engineers
- Collaborates with other engineers to ensure flexible, scalable, and maintainable infrastructure systems are delivered
- Works with more senior level engineers to provide recommendations and input on options, risks, and benefits for infrastructure systems designs
- Maintains, upgrades, optimizes and ensures maximum uptime of live, pre-production and dev environments
- Troubleshoots and fixes (or escalates) application, network, system and database issues
- Develops and validates basic system design prototypes
- Builds basic hardware and/or software configurations and prepares system components for installation to the infrastructure
- Develops, validates, and executes basic infrastructure tests to identify system errors and ensure solutions meet functional specifications
- Leads effort to deliver the validation and testing of smaller, basic components of larger infrastructure systems
- Supports the implementation and maintenance of assigned enterprise infrastructure systems to ensure successful deployment and operation by developing and documenting detailed standards (e.g., guidelines, processes, procedures) for the introduction and maintenance of services
- Provides support for functionality tests as needed, working with Technology teams to revise key system components based on test results as appropriate
- Provides post-implementation support, making system enhancements as needed
- Systems Administration Responsibilities
- Monitors and manages the stability, availability, and performance of enterprise systems and systems in one or more additional IT domains (e.g., systems, network, databases, storage, security) by analyzing systems to identify problems, trends, and opportunities for improvement
- Provides first and second level support for enterprise systems by diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving incidents to minimize non-routine system downtime
- Assists in the implementation of hardware and software changes into environments by performing impact analyses of system changes
- Documents and communicates relevant system performance and procedural information by maintaining documentation of application and/or system diagrams, schemata, and dictionaries
- Participates in the process of drafting key components of system administration standard operating procedures
- Recommends and executes performance tuning, load balancing, and optimization activities
- Collaborates with technical and project teams to resolve system incidents, assisting in break and fix activities where needed
- Provides input into the development of disaster recovery procedures; assists in disaster recovery planning, testing, and activation activities
- Helps evaluate system designs to standardize, develop advanced features, and improve the efficiency of enterprise systems
- Helps design and disseminate reports for end users to assist in incident management, forecasting, and solution development
- Participates in break/fix activities
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, CIS, or related field (or equivalent work experience in a related field)
• 2 years of experience in an IT support environment with technical experience in distributed technologies and systems development
• Experience with systems (both infrastructure and applications) management, diagnostics, and support
• Familiarity with networking, server, and storage technologies
• Familiarity with n-tier architectures
Preferred Qualifications
• Master's Degree in Computer Science, CIS, or related field
• 2 years of experience leading technical or project teams with or without direct reports
• 1 year of work experience in an IT role requiring interaction with senior management (i.e., Director level or higher)
• 2 years of experience working in a large matrixed organization
• 2 years of experience working with third party IT vendors and/or systems solution providers
• 2 years of IT experience in the retail industry
• 2 years of experience writing technical documentation in an infrastructure development environment
• Knowledge of one or more of the following: Unix/Linux/Windows server administration experience (RedHat); Configuration management and automation tools; Database administration experience (RDBMS, NoSQL); Messaging technologies (MQ. Kafka); Web Servers Experience (Apache, Nginx); Application containers (Jboss); Core Services - NTP, proxy, mail, DNS; IT security; Public/Private Cloud technology; Scripting languages; Object-oriented languages; Big Data technologies (Splunk)
Systems Administration
• Experience working with an IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) framework (systems administration related qualification)
• Experience providing first or second level support for enterprise IT systems in a corporate setting, including diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving incidents (systems administration related qualification)
• Experience working with defect or incident tracking software (systems administration related qualification)

Pay Range: $61,300.00 - $116,500.00 annually Starting rate of pay may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, position offered, location, education, training, and/or experience.
