SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Design, implement and manage large-scale voice and data communications systems and networks for Amtrak Engineering and other departments.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Provide operational support for engineering communications systems and serve as a lead engineer for new communication and data systems installations.
• Verify all work on related systems fully match the corporate standards and system requirements.
• Provide system design and configuration requirements that are within the Engineering Standards for all communication systems and engineering-supported IP networks.
• Review and maintain operational service level agreements, maintenance support issues, warranties, and support contracts for engineering communication and data systems.
• Serve as lead project manager during the installation of new communication and data systems.
• Provide indirect supervision of force account during the installation and periodic maintenance engineering communication systems.
• Interface with Amtrak departments, customers and contractor/vendor team members.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with six years relevant experience or ten years equivalent combination of education, training and experience
· Experience in IP network administration.
· Experience working with diverse voice and data communications technologies and protocols.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
· Must have demonstrated experience in communications system support.
· Broad knowledge and thorough understanding of various IP networking technologies.
· Excellent oral and written communications skills with the ability to relate complex technical issues to both technical and no-technical staff.
· Must be proficient at using Microsoft Visio and Office products to document all projects and systems.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with eight years relevant experience or twelve years equivalent combination of education, training and experience
· Cisco CCNA or higher certification.
· Experience with fiber optic distribution systems.
· Thorough understanding of Microsoft Windows workstation and server operating systems. MS certifications are an asset.
· Demonstrated ability in IP network architecture design.
· Experience with SNMP-based network management servers and software.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
· Office & Field 70% or 3 days a week
· Remote 2 days a week
COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
PAY TRANSPARENCY:
The salary/hourly range is $103,700-$134,460. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
