The Mission Systems Operations Contract (MSOC) at the Johnson Space Center is seeking a Hardware Engineer with exposure to, and/or knowledge in, the Computer Aided Design (CAD) area, and who is passionate about increasing their experience and knowledge in the areas of mechanical systems design for both the NASA/JSC Mission Systems critical and non-critical mechanical systems including the design and modification of space vehicle mockups and individual trainer mockups. The selected applicant will also be involved in conducting impact analysis for any engineering modifications, installations, and maintenance of space mission systems in both the test environment and production environments, conduct mechanical systems stress analysis, three-dimensional modeling, perform Human Factors engineering, as well as design and generation of required engineering drawings. The applicant will work in a team environment, and must possess good interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written. Our ideal Platform Hardware Engineer candidate will have a strong drive to apply and continually update his/her skill base, is team oriented and with good problem-solving skills.
Education • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline plus 3 to 5 years of related experience
Responsibilities may include • Generation of technical instructions for implementation
• Generate facility diagrams for hardware projects, review/edit design documents, and monitor project implementation.
• Design and scale hardware components using AutoCAD and Creo
• Monitor vendor installations.
• Perform hardware assessments of changes that have an impact on overall mechanical systems.
• Making improvements and suggestions to advance the overall Hardware Engineering processes in place.
• Offering remediation and mitigation solutions based on vulnerability discoveries.
• Compliance and enforcement of internal policies and procedures
• Incident and Risk Management
• Support system projects and new engineering initiatives
• Provide Hazard Analysis and Risk Management Analysis of designs and/or modifications to space vehicle mockups and related trainers
Desired Qualifications • Hands on experience in AutoCAD and Creo tools.
• An understanding of mechanical systems and structural principles
• Good problem solving and analytical skills.
• Strong communication skills
• Master’s degree in mechanical engineering a definite plus
