The SVMF Maintenance - Operations Technician / Electronics Technical Professional intern will work in a collaborative Maintenance team environment and will primarily be responsible for aiding KBR’s Mission Systems Operations Contract (MSOC) Space Vehicle Mockup Facility (SVMF) Services team with the daily facility preparations and related maintenance activities to support human space flight.
The SVMF Ops Tech works in a fast-paced environment to assess Facility User Requests (FURs) and perform Space Vehicle Mockup reconfigurations with system verification tests as needed. The Ops Tech must have good interpersonal skills to work a variety of tasks in a team environment that typically includes regular interaction with Astronauts, the Training Division, Commercial Crew Partners (Boeing, SpaceX etc.) and Engineering development users. Critical functions and Certification may include the operation and monitoring of the Environmental Control Systems (ECS) cart which provides breathing air to the suited trainees, Test Director for Suited operations, and Partial Gravity Simulator Operations (POGO). The SVMF Ops Tech applies advanced systems operational knowledge and technical skills to contribute to the resolution of a wide variety of moderate to complex system issues, support system design reviews and, the implementation and testing of system modifications. The candidate will work under the limited guidance of Facility and Management personnel. The candidate is expected to make sound judgement (work in accordance with safety policies and work procedures) when supporting in-the-moment user requests. Much of the work is physical in nature and the applicant must be able to install and/or remove cables and equipment, be able to lift 50 lbs., be able to climb stairs, and be able to work from heights using man-lifts, lifting devices, or ladders. Some work is performed while kneeling or beneath trainer floors. Some trainer related power and signal cabling is routed through trenches that are considered confined space. Task related training and Personal Protective Equipment is provided.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Planning and dynamic configuration of space vehicle mock-ups based on Facility Utilization Requests (FURs).
- Pre-simulation Communication system and Loose Equipment check-out
- FUR based staging of equipment on carts to expedite crew station configurations.
- Post sim break-down of Loose Equipment and general clean-up
- Certified Crane Operators
- Suited training support. Physical movement of the approximate 300 lb. suit requires certified crane operators and multiple Techs (or others) to handle the heavy lift.
- Loose Equipment management includes Property Custodian function, general management of loose equipment (functionality, repair, certification if necessary), issue of hardware to users and Shipping and Receiving.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to utilize resources/information to resolve issues in the moment.
- Agility, and willingness to adapt to work requirements in a challenging, fast-paced environment and the ability to multitask.
- Strong focus on Safety and the use of Safety processes in preparation for and during the execution of tasks.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with electronics and mechanical aptitude to perform repairs, preventive maintenance routines, or support equipment modifications.
- Ability to learn and demonstrate NASA Workmanship standards that include hand soldering, cable crimp and harness, and copper or fiber optic cable fabrication and testing.
- Use approved workmanship techniques while following Quality standards and instructions to perform such tasks as: replacing components, building, repairing, and testing cables, building circuit boards and panel assemblies.
- Process/Procedure development and maintenance.
- Other tasking as required.

Education & Experience Requirements
MUST BE ACTIVE DUTY MILITARY AND ELIGIBLE FOR THE DOD SKILLBRIDGE PROGRAM
- Position requires a bachelor’s degree or typically 5 years equivalent experience performing work in a field requiring Operations, Electronic, and Mechanical systems knowledge.
- Experience with NASA workmanship standards is desirable.
- Familiarity and experience with test equipment such as Volt/Ohm Meters, Optical Time Domain Reflectometers, and cable analyzers and the ability to learn and use diagnostic routines and monitoring tools is desirable.
- Electronics Technician Certifications/equivalents are highly desired.

Requirements
· Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
· Must be able to work varying shifts.
· Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.
· Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time). May require lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. (5% of the time).
