Job Overview & Responsibilities
This is an exciting and dynamic role located directly at the launch site. Wide range of activities and projects related Facility Electrical, Power Distribution, Programable Logic Controls and mechanical-electrical systems projects and maintenance. This role includes the ability to directly shape the work and drive projects from cradle to grave. This role can have a significant amount of autonomy. This role directly supports launches, including day of launch activities and a console position.
The Facility Systems Electrical Engineer is a member of the Engineering and Infrastructure sustainment department whose responsibilities include the design, operation and maintenance of ground (fixed and portable) electrical/power systems used at all ULA Launch Sites. Position is located at Vandenberg Air Force Base.
Assignments will include electrical engineering support of:
- Launch operations and major operational systems testing, either at the launch site or in the launch control facility, monitoring power management/control systems supporting the launch vehicle and the spacecraft
- Develop new and revise existing operational test procedures and maintenance documentation associated with launch facility electromechanical systems, primary and backup power (medium and low voltage (12kV, 480 VAC, 120VAC, 24V control, etc.) systems
- Support technical staff and contractors in the design, operations and maintenance of new/existing electromechanical systems, including insight into the mechanical operation of these systems
- Design, operation, maintenance of Programmable Logic Controllers, or similar firmware controllers, supporting launch facilities and systems
- Coordination of Base High Voltage supply infrastructure and readiness in support of Launch Operations
- New development activities supporting Next Generation Launch Systems, customer funded special studies, mission unique modifications, or other major facility modifications and/or system upgrades
- Disposition of corrective actions and coordination with cross-functional groups to identify/implement solutions and drive strategic improvements relative to production processes
- Apply technical engineering knowledge and expertise in the completion of all aspects of an identified project including technological considerations, cost/financial administration and schedule management
- Develop and coordinate technical portions of proposals, statements of work and contract specifications. Apply knowledge of regulatory and certifying agency requirements to ensure product and/or service is in compliance with local and launch base codes
- Apply knowledge of functional testing requirements to ensure product and/or service meets or exceeds customer expectations
- Comply with (AFSPCMAN 91-710) Range Safety design and operational requirements in performance of duties
- Support maintenance and improvement projects in close coordination with Operation Systems Engineering group to ensure system readiness in support of launch vehicle processing
- Develop and coordinate technical portions of proposals, statements of work and contract specifications. Apply knowledge of regulatory and certifying agency requirements to ensure product and/or service is in compliance. Apply knowledge of functional testing requirements to ensure product and/or service meets or exceeds customer expectations
- Support electrical aspects of facility systems including fire alarm, HVAC, lightning protection, and lighting
- Support Engineering and Infrastructure Operations and Major Development groups and tasks as required
Required Education
Bachelor
Required Years of Experience
Minimum of 4 years of related work experience
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college or university is required
- Knowledge of industry standards such as National Electrical Code NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, NFPA 780, NFPA 7
Preferred Qualifications
- Excellent communication, writing and oral skills and have the ability to work with a wide range of team members including customers and subcontractors
- 2 or more years of experience working electrical/power engineering in an Aerospace, Utilities, or similarly complex environment is preferred
- Proficient knowledge in Microsoft Office products like Excel, Word, Power Point and Project
- Experience with Computer Aided Design software such as AutoCad
- Occasional off-shift work may be required to support ongoing launch operations or maintenance activities
- Professional experience working with large, complex electrical/mechanical systems in an equivalent industrial process is preferred
Summary Salary Range (for ULA - Vandenberg AFB only): $103,022.00 - $160,970.00
