POSITION SUMMARY:
As a member of the Amtrak Cybersecurity team, the Intern will gain broad knowledge across all elements ofcybersecurity. The Intern will contribute to enterprise IT compliance programs; real-time monitoring, detection, andincident response of threats to information assets of Amtrak; cyber risk management and cyber threat intelligence;and technical security architecture assessments and engineering. The Intern will leverage team expertise, industrybest practices and research, and academic background to engage in work activities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Promote an understanding of cybersecurity roles, processes and activities to business units and IT departments
- Assist in the implementation of enterprise-wide security standards, procedures, and guidelines
- Assist in penetration testing and red team activities
- Assist in security engineering activities to include operations and maintenance of Amtrak’s security stack
- Assist with security investigations to determine root cause, impact, and remediation steps
- Monitor cybersecurity anomalies; investigate, resolve, and escalate cybersecurity incidents
- Search for potential exploits of vulnerabilities based on the user or entity behaviors, endpoint threat detection,network behavior analytics, alerts/alarms, and managed security reports
- Assist in security and compliance audits
- Support PCI and Financial Statement Audits
- Assist in privacy assessments and information governance projects
- Guide users on the usage and administration of security tools that control and monitor information security
- Support with governance of critical IT disciplines
- Assists in the development of Standard Operating Manuals for different process
- Generate, gather, and track security metrics, develop scorecards for the metrics, and communicate the results
- Support and participate in formal reporting
- Research, collect and analyze data
- Identify challenges/barriers and make recommendations
- Communicate effectively and professionally with key stakeholders
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution.
- Must be actively pursuing an undergraduatedegree and have completed courses in Cyber Security, Information Security, Information Assurance, Computer Science, SecurityRisk Analysis, or similar discipline or holds a certificate related to information technology or cybersecurity.
- Must have at least 1 year of academic undergraduate studies completed or a sophomore status at minimum.
- Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher
- Can participate in an intern program for at least two consecutive semesters.
- Experience in Microsoft Office software suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Can participate in the intern program continuously until graduation
- Excellent vertten bal and wricommunication skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with competing priorities and tight deadlines
- Ability to work independently on specific tasks
- Working knowledge within IT operations and/or Service Management functions.
- Must possess excellent customer service, strong communication, and interpersonal skills, and work well withothers in an integrated team environment.
- Knowledgeable of reporting towards KPIs and industry best practices/benchmarks.
- Good analytical skills
- Experience working in a professional office setting
COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
The hourly range is $17.50 per hour - $35.00 per hour. Pay is based on factors including school year, program of study, etc. In addition, paid internships include Amtrak rail pass privileges as a part of the experience along with one (1) PTO day per academic year.
Summer 2025 internship program will run from May 19th - August 8, 2025.
