Specific responsibilities could include but are not limited to the following:
- Provide support to site SSHO for effective implementation of safety system processes and BeyondZero Culture.
- Serves as alternate site safety officer in the absence of SSHO.
- Serve as the safety technical resource to supervisors ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Support development of task specific AHA
- Perform safety inspections and audits to evaluate culture, ensure regulatory compliance and identify areas of improvement. Assist in development of corrective action plan on identified deficiencies.
- Must be able to work in heavy industrial environment and extreme temperature variations.
- Support incident investigations to determine the root cause and support development and ensure implementation of corrective actions.
Here’s what you’ll need:
BA or BS in Occupational Safety and Health, or other similar technical field or at least five (5) years of progressive and relevant experience required. 30-hour OSHA Construction or GI course, or equivalent training preferred. Willingness and ability to successfully complete a minimum of 8-hours professional development training annually is required. Experience in Industrial Hygiene desirable. CSP, CIH, CHST, or OHST certification desirable.

Will need to wear appropriate PPE (e.g., steel toed shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, fall protection etc.) when working at construction sites, or operations/maintenance sites. May be required to wear personal floatation device (life jacket) when working near water.
Will be in proximity of high voltage electrical and other industrial hazards. Must be able to climb ladders and travel over rough terrain. Must maneuver in and around facility and construction equipment while performing field duties.

This job will involve work at both NS Mayport and Marine Corps Support Facility Blount Island, located in Jacksonville FL.
Work environment includes office (30%) and field work (70%). Office work will include writing reports, developing training materials, presenting in-house safety training; and other tasks as directed to run the project’s Health and Safety programs.
Field locations include but are not limited to utility plants, installation-wide facility maintenance sites, temporary/subcontractor construct sites and port operational areas. Observation of or participation in activities performed at the project’s work centers and job sites will sometimes be required to develop an in-depth understanding of work processes, hazards, etc. May include working on the pier and near water.
Travel between job sites may require use of personally owned vehicles in the absence of an available fleet vehicle. Due to limited parking near facilities, may be required to walk extended distances from parking lots to facilities.

Job will require use of a computer and associated software (e.g., Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint) and other standard office equipment (e.g., copier, scanner). Will require legal and safe operation of motor vehicles. Selected candidate will be required to provide guidance on and/or operate Health & Safety equipment such as portable gas detection meters and monitors, noise dosimeters, local ventilation equipment and similar devices.
Criticality of Attendance

Typical Monday through Friday work week with core business hours of 7:30 to 4:00. However some work may be performed off shift and weekends as needed. Regular attendance and punctuality is mandatory and must be flexible to meet mission requirements and schedule objectives.
Overtime may be required up to approximately 20% to meet demanding schedules.
