The Compliance Consultant will focus on investigating allegations of misconduct and non-compliance with law and company policies (including company policies on non-retaliation, non-discrimination and non-harassment) across UnitedHealth Group and its various businesses. The Compliance Consultant will join a talented, high-performing Investigation team that assesses reported allegations, identifies applicable governing laws, regulations, and policies, and conducts investigations through interviewing witnesses and analyzing documents and other evidence. The Compliance Consultant must analyze facts uncovered through the investigation, apply them against controlling statutes, laws, regulations, policies and guidance, make a merit determination for all allegations, and brief applicable business partners in order to ensure any identified issues have been assessed for remediation.
The Compliance Consultant must be a very strong writer and prepare high quality written summaries for the investigation and witness interviews, and for business leadership briefings. The Compliance Consultant will work collaboratively with Legal, Compliance, People Team, and business partners throughout the investigation, and will also work with UHG Enterprise Compliance leadership. The Compliance Consultant will help business compliance partners identify and recommend process improvements and best practices to promote compliance. The Compliance Consultant should have very strong investigative, analytical, communication, writing skills, and oral presentation skills. The Compliance Consultant should be prepared to manage a high workload, and to handle sensitive, complex, or escalated issues. The Compliance Consultant should also be prepared to assist with team or department projects as they arise. Primary Responsibilities:
- Conduct timely, unbiased, thorough, and effective investigations of allegations of misconduct as well as ethical and compliance violations
- Ability to work independently, confidently, and with initiative
- Collaborate with the business, Legal, Privacy, People Team, and other functions to identify and help the business implement appropriate corrective action
- Provide succinct, persuasive, and well-informed briefings to business partners and leadership at all levels concerning individual investigation findings and recommendations, as well as trends and issues
- Prepare succinct, sound, well-written, and high-quality interview and investigation summaries and reports
- Help drive problem resolution and compliance-related remediation for all business segments across UnitedHealth Group
- Assist leadership with additional projects (ex. training, P&P development, creating resource materials, reporting, and/or assisting other teams in the department)
- Provide subject matter expert support for team members and business partners, as well as backup support for team leadership

Required Qualifications:
- Associate's degree (or higher) OR 4+ years equivalent experience in government, legal, military, health care, managed care, health insurance, or corporate environment in an investigative, audit, compliance, legal research, or similar role
- 3+ years of experience in a government, legal, military, health care, managed care, health insurance, or corporate environment in an investigative, audit, compliance, legal research, or similar role
- 3+ years of experience analyzing, communicating, and presenting complex information and issues
- 3+ years of experience interacting & collaborating with a variety of stakeholders (other functional support areas, customers, business leaders and executives)
- Intermediate level of proficiency with MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree
- Demonstrated investigative experience, particularly in the areas of discrimination, harassment and retaliation
- Solid experience in an investigative role, personally conducting or supervising investigations
- Working knowledge of and experience in the health care and/or insurance industries, including knowledge of and experience with Medicare, Medicare Advantage, Medicare Part D, Medicaid and/or Tricare regulations
- Excellent writing skills and strong verbal presentation skills

California, Colorado, Nevada, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Hawaii, Washington, or Washington D.C Residents Only: The salary range for California, Colorado, Nevada, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Hawaii, Washington, or Washington D.C residents is $88,000 to $173,200 per year. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
