SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
This position is responsible to support Amtrak’s radio infrastructure to ensure safe and reliable operation and regulatory compliance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Incumbent prepares specifications and documents for radio projects assigned to contractors and Amtrak force account. This person prepares estimates and manages capital projects for radio system improvements. Specifies and approves all standard radio inventories. This individual provides technical assistance and guidance to the corporate radio shops and monitors all licensed radio systems for FCC compliance. This person also investigates RF interference problems and runs radio frequency coverage plots. Assists in the approval of all standard radio specifications and test equipment purchases. Design and implement radio systems to meet unique user requirements.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with six years relevant experience or ten years equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Must hold Federal Communications Commission GROL license or equivalent.
• Experience in design, installation and maintenance radio infrastructure.
• Experience working with diverse voice and data communications technologies and protocols, both wired (copper/fiber) and wireless (radio).
• Proficient in organizational skills, and leadership abilities.
• Proficient in written and computer skills.
• Must be able to interface with all levels of employees and both external and internal customers.
• Excellent oral and written communications skills with the ability to relate complex technical issues to both technical and non-technical staff.
• Experience managing and supervising technical maintenance personnel.
• Must be proficient at using Microsoft Visio and Office products to document all projects and systems.
• Some experience with the finance system and invoice processing
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with eight years relevant experience or twelve years equivalent combination of education, training and experience
• Thorough knowledge of Railroad Safety Rules, RWP and NORAC qualifications.
• Familiar with FCC regulations

COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
The salary/hourly range is $103,700-$134,460 Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
