As the Emerging Technology leader, you'll be responsible for providing strategic direction on the planning, potential use cases, initiatives, and investment in new technology solutions to support business goals and objectives. We’ll count on you to look within and outside the company to identify potential new and disruptive technology to support the business strategy and provide a competitive advantage. You'll be responsible for the management and allocation of the Research & Development (R&D) budget, accountable for the coordinated development of integrated roadmaps across business and technology capabilities to enable a holistic planning process and aligning these roadmaps to our enterprise business strategies to ensure value realization.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Partners in the creation of Technology's strategy on how emerging technologies can enable Nationwide to meet their business goals.
Responsible for driving change and staying ahead of new technologies.
Partners in the creation of opportunity proposals, business cases, and partner requests to review and implement new technologies.
Oversees the technology adoption governance and process supporting our foundational capability of rapidly reviewing and/or adopting emerging technology.
Conducts a regular cadence of technology scouting with regular scans and engagements across the industry, startup community, universities and research firms to determine implications and needed actions by Nationwide.
Identifies key areas of research and experimentation based upon key inputs, determines allocation of budget and coordinates targeted technology initiatives experiments.
Drives the development, execution, and communication of technology capability roadmaps.
Collaborates with internal and external partners to identify, define, and evolve operational performance measures for strategic and technology priorities, technology innovation, R&D investments, and other related Nationwide's innovation initiatives.
Leads all aspects of associate management, including performance, salary administration, training, and development, hiring, day-to-day management and corrective actions.
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting Relationships:Reports to VP, Innovation & Emerging Technologies. Leads a team of approximately 4-8 direct reports. Will have additional matrix leadership responsibility for technical resources engaged in R&D activities.
Typical Skills and Experiences:
Education: Undergraduate studies in Computer Science, systems analyses or related field. Preferably a Master’s degree in IT management, Business Administration, and/or Organizational Effectiveness.
License/Certification/Designation:Lean Six Sigma or related preferred.
Experience: At least 10 years of technology experience in application development, application maintenance, operations and project delivery.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Proven ability to lead, influence without authority, motivate and drive large and complex organizational changes. Prior experience with large, complex and multi-disciplinary projects. Successfully led organizations through both operational and growth challenges. Deep understanding and experience in implementing Lean and Continuous Improvement practices.
Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and Human Resource Business Partner.
