How Will Your Role Impact First Command?
The Advanced Planning Consultant (APC) serves as a financial planning expert to Advisors in developing financial plans. The APC partners with Advisors at all levels of experience and expertise to ensure that clients receive holistic plans which provide an accurate analysis of their current financial situation, an assessment of risks and opportunities, and strategic options to enhance client outcomes. This role serves as a subject matter expert on the financial planning process, plan development and case design, and selection of financial products.
What Will You Be Doing?
·Develop and maintain expert knowledge of financial planning concepts, including but not limited to:
oRetirement Income Planning strategies with an understanding of the complex relationship between retirement income sources and income taxation.
oIRA and Qualified Retirement Plan features benefits, distribution options and taxation rules.
oStrategies for generating tax-efficient income to meet spending needs in retirement, accounting for pensions, annuities, investments, and other sources.
oFundamental principles of Social Security and Medicare planning
oMilitary and Federal employee benefits relating to retirement planning and survivorship considerations.
oLong-term care planning and strategies
oSurvivorship and Estate Planning
·Identify and model potential product solutions to implement strategies which enhance client outcomes and as they work toward successful achievement of their goals.
·Coordinate Case Prep for client meeting with Advisor
·Maintain expert understanding of all financial software tools in the Financial Planning experience, and work in conjunction with other members of the Financial Planning department to enhance quality control measures to achieve the standards for Plan Quality.
·Stay current with industry developments, legislative and regulatory updates, and tax code changes which impact retirement planning. Lead the effort to assess impacts, communicate to stakeholders, and update planning parameters accordingly.
·May include 25% travel annually based upon business needs.

What Skills & Qualifications Do You Need?
Education
Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in financial planning, finance, or business-related field
Work Experience
Five years relevant financial industry experience required.
Certifications
·Advanced credential in financial planning required. (CFP, ChFC, CPA-PFS, JD)
·RICP and EA designations in addition is a plus.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
·Deep knowledge of financial planning process, tools, concepts, and strategies – with sales and client meeting experience a plus.
·Proficient in Goals Based Planning tools, CRM (Salesforce), and tax review software.
·Presentation skills – Client meetings, Internal Training, and Seminars
·Financial Product Knowledge
·Understanding of miliary pay and benefits a plus.
·Ability to work independently and collaboratively
·Demonstrated willingness to take on additional roles/projects which may be requested periodically by Manager, Director, and/or Vice-President.
