About the Role
The Southern Virginia Regional Alliance (SVRA) Research and Communications Coordinator position supports economic development in the Southern Virginia Region. SVRA is based at the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research (IALR), Danville, VA, and works with the city of Danville, and counties of Halifax, Patrick and Pittsylvania. Promoting the region through collaborative marketing and public relations efforts, together they create a strong economy that benefits the citizens of the Southern Virginia Region.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate administrative functions to support SVRA grant activities, including SPTC, GO VA, TRRC, and others as needed.
- Facilitate board and committee activities, ensuring timely preparation of materials and follow-up.
- Coordinate marketing and public relations efforts, including digital, print, and social media content.
- Support the preparation of grant reports, presentations, and documentation; maintain databases of grant activities.
- Prepare purchasing and accounting requests related to grant activities and maintain appropriate records.
- Conduct research and data analysis on demographics, industry sectors, and regional economic trends to support marketing and economic development strategies.
- Maintain and update databases, including a business registry of regional companies, suppliers, and competitors.
- Assist in the creation and distribution of newsletters, economic profiles, and other publications.
- Coordinate SVRA-hosted events, meetings, and conferences, including logistics, vendor coordination, and on-site support.
- Collaborate with IALR’s Conference Services team to ensure seamless execution of events.
- Serve as a liaison to regional partners and stakeholders for communications and event coordination.
- Gather and benchmark regional and industry data to identify sectoral opportunities and support strategic planning.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of marketing and communications strategies and measure stakeholder satisfaction.
Ensure confidentiality of sensitive information and support partner protocols for data handling.
Work Location
We are looking for staff to work onsite in Danville, VA with the ability to work remotely as business needs allow.
The Ideal Candidate
- Bachelor’s degree in public administration, Statistics, Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of one year of experience in economic development, local planning, public relations/marketing or a related field preferred.
- Experience in utilizing social media to include FaceBook, Twitter, Website, YouTube, LinkedIn, Constant Contact and others
- Experience with collecting and disseminating data into briefing format.
