Description

About the Role
We’re looking for a skilled Facilities Maintenance Technician III to play a key role in keeping our campus running smoothly and safely. This position focuses heavily on electrical systems and requires strong technical knowledge, hands-on experience, and a commitment to excellence in maintenance operations.
As a Facilities Maintenance Technician III, you’ll work across campus to maintain and improve the reliability, safety, and performance of our facilities. Your work will include:
- Performing preventive maintenance, repairs, and installations for electrical, plumbing, HVAC, compressed air, fire prevention, and security systems.
- Troubleshooting and resolving facility issues in a timely and accurate manner.
- Handling electrical system maintenance and installations with a high degree of expertise.
- Completing and documenting Help Desk requests and maintenance reports.
- Conducting regular inspections to ensure compliance with safety codes and regulations.
- Managing inventory and supporting both short- and long-term facility projects, including renovations.
- Serving on IALR’s Safety Committee and ensuring proper chemical safety procedures are followed.
- Maintaining professional licenses and certifications as required.
Work Location
We are looking for staff to work onsite in Danville, VA.
The Ideal Candidate
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in electrical maintenance, installation, and repair in a commercial or industrial setting
- Strong technical knowledge of electrical systems, including wiring, breakers, transformers, control panels, and troubleshooting techniques
- Current and valid electrician license or certification required; additional trade certifications (HVAC, plumbing) are a plus
- Skilled in using volt/ohm meters, circuit testers, and other diagnostic and electrical tools
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals
- Familiarity with applicable electrical codes (e.g., NEC) and a strong commitment to safety and code compliance
- Experience working with and around other building systems (HVAC, plumbing, compressed air, fire/security)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) for reporting and documentation
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, vendors, and contractors
- Valid driver’s license with ability to travel within Southern Virginia and occasionally out of state
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to climb ladders and stairs to perform building and system repairs
- Frequently lifts and moves objects weighing 50 pounds or more
- Routinely moves throughout campus buildings and grounds
- Regular pushing, pulling, carrying, and reaching
- Frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and fine finger dexterity
- Physical coordination and stamina to operate hand-held and motorized tools/equipment
- Position involves hands-on, manual labor
- Physical activity breakdown: approximately 10% sitting, 50% walking, and 40% standing/stooping/kneeling
