Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.
Job Description
Overview:
Provide strategic direction and oversight to the Controllership team to establish and maintain sustainable financial operations and robust internal controls. Ensure the accuracy of financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and the safeguarding of company assets. Actively support the Finance Director and serve as a key member of the management team, contributing to the company’s growth and long-term success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Guide the team to manage healthy financial statements through maintaining proper books and record in compliant with US GAAP and Japanese Commercial Codes with the necessary advice to assets and liabilities level to management.
- Lead the team to establish and implementing the internal controls for the processes with financial impacts but balanced with operational efficiency.
- Develop and train team members to enhance productivity in the team operations.
- Develop collaborative relationship with internal and external parties to enhance efficiency in the team operations.
- Work closely with Global IT team for the financial system upgrading projects.
Related responsible areas:
- VAT and WHT compliance. Timely and correct submission of VAT returns.
- The cash management. Liaise with HQ treasury to operate the international pooling. Work with FP&A to complete cash forecast
- All bank account reconciliation.
- Film accounting and participation accounting.
- Intercompany accounts
- Reconcile quarterly related BS accounts in blackline and prepare for the BS review.
- Tax filings
- Assist FP&A with ad hoc queries
- Audits (financial, title, statutory)
- Simplify finance process and improve internal control
- Oversee the overall Royalty process
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
- Extensive experience in managing accounting departments, ensuring operational efficiency and compliance.
- Over 8 years of people management experience, fostering team development and performance.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Deep expertise in the latest SAP systems, with a proven ability to lead upgrade projects in close collaboration with global IT teams.
- Strong track record of cross-functional collaboration, working effectively with senior management and non-financial stakeholders.
- Demonstrated team player with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
- Highly motivated and proactive, with a strong ability to take initiative and drive results.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, adaptable to diverse audiences.
- High English proficiency, with experience working in bi-cultural environments.
Preferred:
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent finance qualification.
- Industry experience in film entertainment or related sectors preferred
