Role Definition
- Under broad direction, support our global business with a focus on US GAAP technical accounting for complex transactions within Caterpillar's captive finance subsidiary. The successful candidate will partner and collaborate with finance and functional teams to ensure appropriate accounting, reporting, and disclosures in accordance with US GAAP and SEC reporting.
Responsibilities
- Maintaining records of organization's financial activity in accordance with GAAP, organizational standards, and in compliance with Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.
- Reviews non-standard transactions for appropriate US GAAP accounting, prepares accounting memos, provides US GAAP training, supports local and enterprise objectives
- Creating reports on financial performance for internal and external use.
- Completing month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities, including but not limited to: related to foreign exchange, cash management and tax, including preparing the appropriate audit work papers for such activities.
- Supporting and assisting junior accounting staff in the development of their professional skills.
Degree Requirement
- Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or a bachelor’s degree in another discipline plus 18 credit hours of Accounting, or successful completion of the Certified Public Accounting (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) exam or the international equivalent.
- A minimum of 4 years of exempt accounting experience is recommended. Must have a broad understanding of accounting and business processes and systems. CPA/CMA is recommended.

- Serves as a technical accounting advisor for business leaders and corporate teams
Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.

- Perform accounting policy research and assist in solving complex accounting issues.
- When inconsistencies or problems are identified, consult with management and offer timely recommendations to appropriately resolve.
- Understands the established continuous improvement objectives for the department. Measures progress toward the continuous improvement standards and ensure that the necessary measurements are maintained. Participates in the resolution of any identified problems. Analyzes data and makes business decisions based on such analysis.
- Supports internal customers’ business strategies through guidance on complex accounting transactions.

- Demonstrated ability to work independently, communicate effectively, and collaborate across multi-functional teams.
- Administer surveys and confirmations to support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
- Establish business partnerships across the organization and assist accounting in support of their business strategies.
- May serve as Project Team lead and mentor/advisor to other employees
- Support the development and maintenance of US GAAP accounting policies and practices

Level Extensive Experience:
- Under broad direction, performs a wide variety of intricate and complex accounting tasks. Duties and responsibilities may include analysis of accounting related to non-standard transactions, implementation of new US GAAP accounting standards, providing US GAAP technical accounting support to global business partners, SOX and internal audit liaison, SEC disclosure support, preparation of technical accounting memo’s, digital transformation and continuous improvement projects requiring the use of in-depth accounting knowledge and application.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and multi-task.
- Shifts focus among several efforts as required by changing priorities.
Accounting: Knowledge of accounting methods, processes, and tools; ability to maintain and prepare financial statements and reports using accounting methods and processes.
Level Extensive Experience:
- Reviews assignments for accuracy and completeness.
- Thorough knowledge of US GAAP accounting.
- Demonstrated proficiency of MS Office 365 tools including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Knowledge of Outlook and Teams is recommended.
- Broad understanding of accounting and business processes and systems.
Financial Analysis: Knowledge of tools and approaches of financial analysis; ability to read, interpret and draw accurate conclusions from financial and numerical material.
Level Extensive Experience:
- Applies a broad knowledge of advanced accounting methods and procedures.
- Assist in review of 10Q and 10K financials and provide accounting policy and technical accounting support
- May review and verify the accuracy of journal entries and accounting classifications assigned to various records
- Conducts and documents analyses of a variety of financial statements and indicators.
Financial Reporting: Knowledge of processes, methods, and tools of financial reporting; ability to create and maintain accurate and thorough financial reports.
Level Extensive Experience:
- Thorough knowledge of US GAAP and SEC reporting.
Additional information:
- This position requires the successful candidate to work full time, 5 days per week in the Nashville main office.

Summary Pay Range:
$116,532.00 - $216,384.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
